first human "infected with computer virus"

that's how i read it too, I totally had this ghost in the shell imagery of having your brain hacked.

This made me chuckle:

the chip isn't interfacing at all with this guys body.

theSun, as usual, you're missing the point. These chips can be infected at distance:

If these implants support important human functions such as

medical devices such as pacemakers and cochlear implants

or in a somewhat distant future

  Quote
someone's memory or their IQ

which you may benefit from, that is, important body functions, then being able to infect these implants at distance is dangerous.

since i miss the point so often i wish you could halp me out bro

i get that you can fuck up someones micro chip if you can communicate with it. this is basic shit. if i make my chip talk to yours i can hack into it and make it do whatever i want.

a pacemaker does interface with your body. in that respect, you could go an fuck up someone pacemaker with this doohickey, but is that really "infecting" someone with a computer virus? i'd say no.

quick question... is the chip interfacing at all with this guys body?

your semantic point was obvious, but it has no importance for the result. The result being that if someone infects your pacemaker, you can die.

Of course, a chip is not your body, but if it is inside your body and functions as a vital constituent (like an organ), then one can assume you are infected with a computer virus. Saying something like "noooo, it's the chip that is infected" won't do much difference.

i don't think we're disagreeing, i'm just saying that this guy is basically doing an exercise in logic. not exactly cutting edge stuff until we actually start to see networked chips that control bodily functions. even then it's relatively easy to lock down shit that needs to be static and don't give everyone write access.
