Caretstik
I quite like this, I thought it was inevitable that they'd end up doing more conventional vocals but I don't mind as I quite like Tyondai Braxton's voice. Pity you'll probably have to buy another album of overwhelming crap to get it though. Guest ms-dos
are these soundtracks just a big in-joke among credible musicians? the first one had lots of great artists (thom yorke, grizzly bear + beach house, bon iver, lykke li), and, of course, were all original compositions for the movie. i know they're getting paid -- and good for them -- but how does this even come about? Caretstik
That's what I though too. I really wanted the tracks by some of those artists you mentioned but felt too embarrassed (and usually seem to be too skint) to buy the whole album, and a bit blackmailed as they weren't available to download on their own. You have to admit that it's a bit frustrating when you champion esoteric artists like battles and subsequently get scoffed at by mainstreamers, only to have them embrace those same artists when they're presented in a more palatable package. I'm with maus. it's frustrating when all of a sudden one of your favourite bands becomes that "randum band with all the funny vocals" or what have you. I agree that people's opinions shouldn't affect your musical taste but I could get in a conversation with someone and mention that I like battles then they'd be all like "oh yeah I like twilight too!" (which would make me rage) so basically what I'm saying is that it's not just about how you let other people's opinions affect you, but also about how theirs do too. hope that made some sense. What would annoy me is more the fact that they're not REALLY getting into Battles are they? If they were like "yeah after seeing the new Twilight movie I really got into Battles, I just had to get Mirrored by that wasn't enough so I got Tyondai Braxton's solo album and those two ep's and they were all really good, my favourite track is Race : In" or something like that, then it would be alright wouldn't it? But what I assume you're talking about are the people who've heard ONE song (the one on Twilight) and MAYBE Atlas, and they'll call them The Battles, and if they do listen to a whole album they'll say it's rubbish, not even music "it's just noise, how do you listen to that? Most of it doesn't even have singing" etc THAT is annoying. Guest Backson
its sad that there is a price that respectable bands will sell out for these days. whatever indie is and stands for is nothing anymore, where bands are sick of being that "we're not mainstream, we're unconventional, we have morals" stereotype that they jump at the opportunity to be pop. So basically, being sick of a silly little joke that's as old as time itself has driven bands to actually lose thir morals. I dunno, maybe I'm talking shit. the fact that the broad idea of indie is being sold to shit-stupid American teens, and the fact a band as facinating as Battles would really involve themselves with Twighlight is just upsetting. I hope that a strong counter-culture develops again soon.
