π_1(X) is the fundamental group (first homotopy group) associated with some topological space X. You should read about algebraic topology: it's fun.

I'll start with topology in a year, even though I heard about it when we worked on metric and projective spaces.

If I read about algebraic topology now, I wouldn't understand much of it :/

I started studying mathematics at university this year, my aim is to get a PhD
