I'm sure I've talked about i there before, but that program is rad. The pattern arranger is the weakest link, bu tit's still doable.

It's basically a modular sequencing environment with the capability to patch things around like Reason. You make "stacks" which hold sequencers, synths, effects, whatever, and then you control it all with "presets" which allow you to change patterns, modulations ect. It's wicked fun with soft synths and hardware. They are about to drop a big ass upgrade too. :D

I even on have the demo, but might spring for the app soon. It's only like $120

funnily enough I've just got this - using it to sequence all my hardware, it's really fucking wicked. the way you can use stacks of sequences to control different drum machines alongside sound modules and other synths is awesome - really quick to get the bones of a track down.

after using it for a few days more I can only reiterate numerology's awesomeness. it's like having a separate doepfer MAQ 16/3 (or similar sequencer) for every sound source you've got - every module, all your drum hits, mono synth, polysyth - it'll sequence the lot! brilliant.

the pattern arranger is weak, so much that I rarely make any songs with it, just a few patterns. where it becomes really powerful is in rewire mode, using it purely for it's midi note-on and cc modulation capabilities. routed into ableton this thing is killer, i can use all my vst's (fuck audio units), and making effects chains and everything is much easier in there. i'll build all my patterns in numerology, send each stack out to a different midi track in ableton (make sure you take advantage of the 4 numerology ports and 16-channels each), arm every track and record a full on performance. this will record all of numerology's info into midi clips and automation in ableton which can then be arranged in a much more intuitive manner.

the thing that is really awesome is routing modulation sequencers and lfo's to any parameter in ableton through cc generators.

have you scoped the updated spec for numerology 3? full-on math modules and whatnot is gonna be killer, the way we'll be able to bend and break modulation sequences and shit will be insane.

yeah I don't use the pattern arranger either - just play patterns from numerology into my hardware and record the audio into cubase for chopping and arranging etc. this method works really well for me!

ya I agree the pattern arrange screen is the weakest link. I'm sure you could also make it change stack presents based on program change messages, meaning you could basically have a clip in LIVE for each preset of a stack and change them that way. Then you wouldn't have to print everything to midi to arrange it, and you gain a lot of flexibility. :)

I'm going to test that now actually.

I wonder if it would be possible to have everything controlled from this numerology plus volta. Like get indi cv intputs on poly synths and monos. Probably not easy and would get messy. Plus, sequencers like a 303 have their own feel that can hardly be replicated.

ya I think the five12 d00d is a bit of an analog dork, so they are really pushing into the modualr area with a vengence. It's way more oriented to that than to the launchpad glitch-tard crowd lol. hugs.

were you able to get this working? i've never even thought to do it that way, fucking brilliant. i'm not having any success though: 2 stack presets set to change on program change 1 and 2 on channel 1. in ableton i've got 2 midi clips set to bank/none sub-bank/none program change/1 & 2 going out to numerology port 1 channel 1. in numerology i've tried setting stack midi in to numerology 1 as well as flipping around to the routing and setting midi remote to numerology 1. nothing is working though? i'm getting a midi status indicator in numerology so the midi data is at least getting there but for some reason it's not changing presets. i don't entirely know a ton about program changes in numerology so maybe i'm missing something. gonna have to read up on it more but for now i'm retiring for the night, gotta go watch breaking bad.

let me know if you had any luck.

ya I couldn't figure it out either. I eve tried triggering the preset by a note-on from live and couldn't wrangle it. The midi in and out is a bit confusing to me... If I could figure that out I'd completely buy it. Also for some reason I get an error when trying to start up in rewire mode. Something like "rewire driver is not compatible with this version please reinstall blah blah". Did it to no avail... Maybe it's deactivated in demo mode.

ya I did twice. Still no-go. Do you have a registered version? Also what version of OSX do you run. I've still got tiger. Really need to upgrade that shit...

I also posted a thread about it on their forum. We'll see what they come up with...

  • 5 months later...

Was just watching videos on this program again.

What the hell is there not a Windows version being developed? I was so ready to settle for a cheaper Windows PC for my next computer, but now I just can't.

pretty sure the 'company' is really like 1 dude. That would explain the lack of interest. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets bought up by someone else..
