Does anyone have any experience with telescopes? I'm looking to a) see really far away on-land stuff with good detail [such as neighbours windows] and b) perhaps check out some nearby stuff in the sky.

I had a little telescope as a kid. Not very powerful tho. But at that time it was mindblowing for me, to be able to see the interior of the houses across the road, about six hundred meters away.

Years later - she must have been past seventy then - Mrs. Ribeirho told me that she knew that I was watching her the whole time, and giggled. I could hear the seventeen-year old in that giggle, and a solitary tear trickled down my left cheek.

Is it really ribeirho with that h? Because Ribeiro without h is a common name in our country. Maybe he is of english ancestry or something. Dunno, but its curious.

'Maybe', I said, 'or maybe not... we were too busy finalizing the Fibonacci deal to worry about the minutae of that post.'

I paused; the scar on this... rough shape of a man which I knew as 'ruiagnelo' was strangely familiar... the opium dream which I'd had in Shanghai a week ago, but which felt like months ago. But wait... before that - and there, I froze - that low-grade, third-generation copy of a cheap home-made pornographic movie which I had encountered in that J.G. Ballard novel in which I was a bit player several weeks ago. Of course! 'Kallisti Fnord!', I muttered - 'this mashup is becoming increasingly silly.'

You know what's funny? The NRO has dozens of Hubble-sized (and larger) scopes up in orbit. Most people have no idea.

Too bad they're all pointed at earth.

Or... are they... ;)
