Guest VgqepetrahLcwg swr6
Hello Here's your chance to pay tribute to some of your favorite tracks that you feel are completely misunderstood and/or underappreciated and/or doesn't get the attention they deserve. Just to get the ball rollin' (and because I'm bored, and what I really should do is study for my exam tomorrow) I'm going to name a few that I think are underappreciated. TAPR Oh TAPR, my dear friend. If it hadn't been for IV VV IV VV VIII and SURRIPERE, you'd be my favourite off Draft 7.30, and that says alot since Draft is an ace album! 19 Headaches Apart from its horrible, horrible name it actually is a fookin' great track! (same goes for the rest of Peel Session 2 actually) Yuop You guys know that this is on the album, right? Pen Expers Just kiddin'... Fol3 In the midst of the chaos that is Quaristice, it can be easy to overlook this little gem. Respect! Fol4 Same thing goes for this one. six
Windwind Foil Garbagemx36 Three early tracks that all have a similar feel to me, though I rarely hear mentioned. These are all pretty epic tracks that suck you into another world. Brings to my mind images of being lost in a vast desert at night. Lots of space on all of these, and really some of their first tracks to slowly develop over a long period of time. The melodies are very melancholy and beautiful, brings isolation to mind. Milk DX Awesome AE b-boy track. I always thought the muffled synth sounded like heavily processed Mike D vocals (from the Beastie Boys) and this is maybe where the track got its name. Krib Beautiful melody and I love the "marble" percussion. Laughing Quarter Maybe my favorite AE track ever but I don't see it mentioned much sandwiched between two more popular tracks. This one is just epic, a flawless song for me. Acroyear2 What a fantastic first track. Like being shot out of a cannon. The jazzy melodies in the later part of the song are just mindblowing, one of their more melodically impressive songs. Zeiss Contarex Really spooky atmosphere and I love the vocals at the end. Very cool effects on the synth, makes my skin crawl. Gaekwad Criminally underrated, the synth on this track is gorgeous when it finally comes through full force. Really awesome use of "bass mulching" like they do on Lentic as well, in a more conventional setting. Eidetic Casein This one seems to annoy a lot of people but I love the weird melody on this, especially how it progresses later in the song. Iera Love the weird mutant acid sound to this track, and a very cool transition into something totally different a la Cipater. Blir
Outpt People find it repetitive, I disagree! Garbagemx36 Incredible. So easy to get lost in. Fwze Unfortunately gets a lot of hate. I love this track - it's like rubber. Weissensee Against Im Gluck One of my fave ae tracks. Beautiful, hypnotic melody, really unique atmosphere. Hub Oh yeah. Vl Al 5 Best track on Draft easily. It's a wheezing, smouldering red hot piece of audio. The cut up samples in the end make me cry pearly white from my penis. 777 This never gets mentioned really, but the rubbery bass is awesome! It's hard to describe all the chaotic sounds going on in the background, which is why I love it. /]{- /](||) excerpt I don't know why. I just adore this track. Guest CurlyAngryman
Known(1) - Why all the hate? This is a fantastic melodic piece. Yuop - How can Treale beat this absolute gem? Drane2 - This is Autechre being at their most achingly emotional. Fuck yeah. Yeesland - In my opinion, the best danceable beat Autechre has ever put out. Pir - That bass makes me cry. Suffocate Peon
On 6/8/2010 at 2:52 AM, CurlyAngryman said: Pir - That bass makes me cry. Yes. Pir is the most beautiful track Autechre have done imo. The Autechre poll is a good indication of which tracks are under appreciated. Calbruc is incredible. It's unusually direct for Autechre. I love the slight pause before the shake sound, and the whirring. It has that organ-like sound underneath, which appears again in Recury. Calbruc is like 3 minutes of condensed perfection whereas Recury is more sprawling, but they accompany each other well. They were the first pieces of music I heard of Autechre that I thought was almost perfect. They have this majestic beauty to them. springymajig
Further: This is one of the first Ae tracks I ever heard. I remember thinking it was boring when I was younger, then I deleted the mp3 after listening quite a few times. I didn't get Amber until many years later, and hearing Further again with older, wiser ears was really weird, like it was a completely new song. I mean, the ending is just.... it leaves me speechless. The atmosphere of the whole thing is amazing too, all cavernous... I was surprised by tracks like Foil and Peizo cos they seem so digital and mechanical compared to the rest of the album which seems like it describes more organic things (although Peizo does make me think of beaches by the end of it). Stud: I think there was an apprecation thread for this a while ago. I can definitely see it not going down too well with most people. There's something about that tune that hits just the right spot with some of us though, so we're glad we can hear it over and over again for 10 minutes. I've reached the point now where I wish it was longer. os veix3: Again... I dunno if it's just cos it hits just the right spot with me but this is now my favourite track off the album. Admittedly, it does work much better in context with the album, but I've listened to the whole thing enough times to sorta get the feel of it without Treale playing before it. I find it the most relaxing thing they've done in a long time. baph
I'll be that guy and say Fermium. Is it the least interesting individual track on Untilted? Yeah. Is it actually bad? I don't think so. I tend to think of Fermium as part 2 in an Iera-Fermium-The Trees suite. It fits perfectly in the context of the album. Ipacial Section, Pro Radii, and Augmatic Disport feel thematically unified, and distinct from the rest of the album, in the same way Iera-Fermium-The Trees does. LCC and Sublimit work brilliantly as openers and closers, introducing/expanding on the sound of the rest of the LP. If I pull Fermium out of Untilted, Untilted doesn't work nearly as well as an album. I always miss it.
