Emeralds

I keep hearing all this talk about them from Pitchfork and last.fm - but I heard some of their tracks and I find it shitty rofl - anyone else in accordance?

I just got their latest due to all the praise I read. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. It's not at all what I was expecting

Aren't their prior releases very experimental drone? "Does It Look Like I'm Here?" must be praised because of this. I quite enjoy the album, to be honest.

there was some piss poor cheesy guitar on the stuff I heard. I think it was their latest. I am in accordance.

I had no idea they were being hyped. I don't really read Pitchfork (except for when people link to it on messageboards) and actively avoid Hype Machine - I just tend to go by what my friends are chatting about on twitter.

If I was gonna pick a band that I thought were being hyped, OMG if I hear one more person tell me "aaahh, you HAVE to hear Rene Hell, it's AMAZING!!!!!" I'm gonna hurl -> that has been overhyped to me and it's pleasant enough Krauty experimentalism but it's nothing great.

Heard Emeralds after being sent a random link and didn't know what to expect (the last link this person sent me was to Mordant Music, so it could be anything, really) and I was pleasantly surprised.

I love the new album, seeing them at ATP in Dec and very excited!

because its the best record of the year so far. sure its totally cheesy but i always like cheesy music anyway. seriously, most of their recent releases are fantastic. check the forthcoming solo one on mego !

I checked out "Does It Look Like I'm Here?" couple of days ago because Emeralds is opening for the Caribou gig that I am going to in a couple of weeks.

I've just listened to it once but it didnt do much for me.

the Mark McGuire (guitarist in Emeralds) LP is really worth checking out too if you like Emeralds.

I liked the album. Candy Shoppe is one of my favorite tracks of the year

Anything between Solar Bridge and the self titled album is closer to Berlin School type stuff and way less cheesy. I like the new album, but not nearly as much as their self-titled. I think they made a mistake with changing to shorter tracks.

They always remind me of early M83 as well.

I heard that Allegory of Allergies is a good record.

If you enjoy noise. Pre-Solar Bridge albums are not nearly as melodic.

Solar Bridge, The Overlook, Emeralds (Last year's album, not the early cassette), What Happened, Planetarium.

Nope. Those are all pretty melodic.

I got this new Emeralds album yesterday and fell asleep to it but it woke me up again halfway through. I suppose it's not that sort of ambient. But I think I liked it.
