Dan Curtin

I don't think this man is getting his well deserved attention as he makes quite wonderful tunes, detroit techno inspired, merging delightful, often spacey atmospheres with great drum programming and occasional funky beats. I will post some favorites, but you should check out the whole discog. There are also a few aliases worth checking.

Peacefrog released an amazing mixed compilation called The Web of Life in 95, that features some of his best tunes, but it's shame that the audio quality is quite poor, maybe because of a bad pressing, i am not sure. Anyway, it's a must have if you like Curtin's work.

you should. it is a wonderful mix of dan's techno, being it very melodic and spacey at certain times.

 

it's just a shame that the audio quality doesn't seem to be the best. must have been some kind of trouble pressing the record.

Thanks ruiagnelo for highlighting who is for me such an important artist. I have all DC's work (except MET07140) up to mid 2000. Was lucky to hear him from day one really back in 1991. First track i heard was "3rd From The Sun" from his first EP and from then i've been hooked on his unique sound ever since. Never understood why so many people didn't get it.. may be because his style wasn't very dance friendly. Quality all the way.

created this topic a long time ago and had to be the first to reply, because i didn't believe no one would react to it.

i assume Dan Curtin is still unknown for a lot of people around here, but he really has established his own sound.

Remember chatting to him after one of the Aquaplanet parties in Glasgow back in 96 or 97. As well as making great music he's a total gent too.

Been listening to a lot of Curtin lately, and never get tired of it! Probably even more than usual, because a week ago i went to a shitty store that sells all kinds of used products and found a UK CD version of Deception ( http://www.discogs.com/Dan-Curtin-Deception/release/43658 ) for 3,50€.

I still can't believe it was there waiting for me! Among all the used Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent and Beyoncé!!
