Rediscovering soulseek

The existence of soulseek came to my mind the other day. I had given up on it years ago for Oink and such, and then, been using rapidshare-like sites for 2 years now. I thought about giving Soulseek a new chance (In the years I was using it, dl speed was like 10.3 ). And boom ! I realized everything I needed was there, without ratios, without waiting time, without ads. Fuck, I forgot how much browsing through users files was addictive, and that littl pleasure of banning people who don't share.

Soulseek rules, it's definitely back on the map.

Yeah but fuck knows what kind of shitty transcodes you are downloading.

I have downloaded thousands of records and i can count as many problems with that as the fingers i have.

The only thing i am afraid of is being hacked through it. There are some reports on the web of people that had this problem.

But i guess i ll keep thinking it always happens to someone else... until it happens to me.

um, what do you mean? my 320 mp3s are not legit?

Who the fuck knows, that's the problem. You'd be surprised by the amount of mutt rips floating around.

If you can't tell by listening, then there's no problem.

downloading ae rips is the worst because it is now impossible to tell if the incoherent blips and bleeps are the newest ae release or just your speakers cracking.

Well this thread has convinced me to get slsk, I heard some good and some bad things about it and never thought it was worth while.

Who wants to give the quick skinny?

I have to use SSX for OSX, which is a bit shit and not at all intuitive. But if you've been around these things before, it's relatively simple; search for an item, wait a bit for the results to populate, download (usually prior to that you'd want to expand the individual item result if you're ultimately looking for more than just a track. Alternately, find someone with a good connection and good taste and browse their files. ) You download from an individual on soulseek, so be careful not to overdo it.

Also, set up a shared directory.

I can't share anything at the moment, so I suck at life.

it is well worth it, just make sure to give as you take. no ratios, just nice people. common sense. it's a basic enough program, easy to use and great for finding popular music as much as it is good for finding all kinds of underground shit. i love the program, been using it for at least 10 years.

If I set up a sharing folder do the tracks in these folders have to be up to a certain standard or do I just label them correctly and let people decide if they want that bit rate?

Right after spending aaaaages fucking around to get a static IP and then set up port forwarding I just clicked Automatic Port Forwarding  .

Anyway, my music folder at the moment isnt in the best of shape so Ive created a new slsk one. Who wants to give me tips on organizing? At the moment im going with genre>artist>album.

Also Id appreciate if someone would add me to their list, PM me or whatever. Im still in the process of transferring files from my usual music folder to my slsk one. Thanks

I love slsk, I just hate when I download something with really shitty tags. Doesn't happen as much as it did many years ago though.
