Causeyoufair - There I Lay & Time Imperfections

21 February 2010 - 11:49 AM

Audiomoves Label Page

"There I Lay & Time Imperfections" is a flawlessly presented masterpiece of gentle classical ambience by Causeyoufair. Beautiful tones derived from cello and piano reverbs, the use of space to aid quiet contemplation. Music to read, sleep and feel by. Causeyoufair's album has been compared to his contemporaries, William Basinski and Stars of The Lid.

Hi everyone

I really thought this was something you'd want to know about.

Over at KVR they are mad for it > read the thread its huge :::

KVR Thread

If you are into sound design then this module can really work with you.... We've shifted a fair few - and not one complaint.

track made with ambient .....

I'm tempted, but it feels like too much of a cheat to use something like that.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

problem is, most max/msp users are too hung up on developing their own patches.

I feel dirty using anything someone else made, even small external objects.

Good attitude.

I must admit I still use guitars others made for me, as well as Logic, Machinedrum, Live, ..... ;-)

I think he's making a point about how if you use a guitar/whatever made by someone else why not max patches?

Exactly. But I admire people who build their instruments themselves.

Max, Reaktor.... and guys building their own guitars.

Some of us are just better off being musicians than engineers ;-)

comparing gaining more unique sounds from making your max/msp patches to building your own guitars is a pretty bad comparison. I have been playing guitar for about 14 years now and I don't see how building my own guitar would yield much of a unique sound. It would still sound like a guitar unless you built it wrong or you used some type of space age or ghetto pickups (you can put different pickups in any guitar anyway) Nothing like the vast unique differential possibilities of created in building your own patches

I see no problem with using other people's creations if you actually put the effort of sculpting it into your own vision and express something from within.

Well, there are people customising their guitar rigs to an extent that the sound becomes something very different indeed (building a Kaoss Pad into the guitar, lots of outboard FX, synths, using a sitar guitar, using fretless guitars or ones with quarter-step frets, adding resonant bass strings a la Michael Hedges or McLaughlin in Shakti...). Are these enough examples?

its a flat out bad comparison, muse having someone make a midi controller in his guitar for a mediocre 2nd generation kaos pad isn't not really that crazy nor are outboard FX relevant to the comparison at all. You can make a guitar sound pretty crazy but rarely is it because of whom built the guitar alone.

anyway I gotta bail but its just a bad comparison in a lot of ways imo

Anyway .. ;-)... , I'd love to get into designing stuff in MAX.

-->Would the Maxforlive package give me the same flexibility as the standalone version?

at the end of the day this has reverb - no big deal

it has delay - no big deal

it has filters - again you all use these

but its the granular processing that makes it so fun and immediate you really can sculpt radically different textures with it but vary the granular pitch, size, randomness, speed

its not cheating - it is a use fun tool to have in your sonic sculpting arsenal that's all ...
