Hairless Bears

Dolores is a South American brown bear who has inherited a rare hair condition that has rendered her almost hairless. The veterinarians in the Leipzig Zoo where Dolores resides have been baffled this condition, but estimate that it is a genetic defect that was passed on.

Damn, it looks a lot more like a dog than I would've expected.

I always imagined a bear without hair would be a lot more muscular looking, with a big head and face, etc. Maybe that's just a tiny bear anyway?

I remember reading a book by Annie Dillard for school where she says something like "...and the fact that a skinned bear looks quite similar to a human."

At the time I thought it was the most poignant line in the book, and still do, but this one seems far more canine...however, again, maybe grizzly bears in North America have a completely different body/facial structure than the one pictured here.
