Goldmund - Famous Places

Keith Kenniff will be releasing a new album under his Goldmund moniker at the tail end of August. He's posted a small promo video with an excerpt from one of the albums tracks, Brown Creek, which you can view below. Sounds like another slice of gorgeous music.

keith kenniff is high on a short list of truly gifted modern classical composers

I couldn't agree more. To produce great music under one alias is quite a feat, but to do it under a number of them and each with their own style, is quite something indeed.

Keith's put a new track up from Famous Places, 'Fort McClary', to stream or download for free. You can do so

the whole album is out, it's pretty but it lacks that authenticity, darkness and melancholy corduroy road had, it sounds more like a soundtrack with all the electronic ambient washes..quite disappointing overall.

Really? That's a shame, though I'll definitely be giving this a listen.

I like Goldmund and Mint Julep, but my favourite incarnation of Keith's is Helios.

i feel like i panned it way too much previously, its often more than just pretty, the 2nd track for example is probably the best i've heard from him, the electronics are not that apparent and pretty subtle most of the time. it kinda meanders a lot..some tracks are a bit overstuffed with this.. nostalgic naivete (blah), some tracks sound like music for car commercials, but still it's quite enjoyable most of the time.

Placed my order yesterday after more listening to the samples and tracks on his site.

The sound of this one reminds me a bit of Eno and Harold Budd's collaborations and also the soundtrack work of Cliff Martinez. Curious to hear what Keith's upcoming soundtrack work sounds like actually- I'd assume it would be pretty similar to Famous Places.

Yeah I was gonna send a retort to your first post but I think you've hit the nail on the head with this one.

It's a bloody lovely album though - the CD arrived on my desk this afternoon and I've just got round to listening to it. It contains the same beauty and intimacy of The Malady of Elegance but somehow with even more emotion jammed in. Yes, some of the tracks are a little twee sounding - but the old romantic that I am absolutely love all of that, it puts a nice big smile on my face. But some of the darker tracks make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end and there's no doubt I'll hear them again in the future and burst out in tears. I just hope the album doesn't get raped by indie film makers (and the aforementioned car commercial promo producers)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.
