Prefuse 73 - New Album (2010)

I've been reading his blog for some time now, and he's been hinting at a new album this year for the longest time, and he's finally done with it!! :yeah:

This is gonna be amazing.

Everything she touched turned ampexian kind of annoyed me a little bit. All his other albums are great though. Hope this is just as good as One Word...

I'm thinking it's not going to sound anything like One Word.

Pity, I adore that album.

And this is exactly why most of his more recent albums are rated so low on sites like rateyourmusic.com...everyone wants/expects another One Word Extinguisher. I strongly believe the ratings are far more a reflection of people's expectations than they are a reflection of the quality of the music. Quite sad.

This could be pretty interesting, I think the different vocalists might give it some nice variety. It's cool that he's trying not to repeat himself- I like Ampexian (though the live version of it was a bit messy).

I can understand that. I love Ampexian, but I certainly wouldn't want another album of snippets like that. I think Prefuse works best when he has time to flesh out his productions, like on Digan Lo. Have you heard Meditations? If you want "Ampexian w/One Word" you should go for that! :)

And yeah Sidewinder, I agree 100%. One Word is definitely my #1 or #2 album by him, but I wish people would just realize that he's not going to make another one.

is he making Medulla?

I really enjoyed what he did on Ampexian, definitely my fave Prefuse album.

ampexian is at least his second best album.

it's his 4th for me, which is still extremely impressive

I love how loaded to the brim with stuff every second of that album is. It's like the busiest, brightest collage I've ever heard. Not sure if it's my favorite, but it is definitely an ambitious album that certainly merits many more listens than I've given it. It seems he's been squishing together fragmented soundbites into albums for a while now. It would be nice to hear some fleshed out arrangements again, but maybe his attention span doesn't permit it. Either way the results are interesting.

The last album and ep were amazing for me.

my favs by him are actually not his prefuse ones (it's a toss up for me between apropat, folk songs . . . and agony), but it seems like everything after one word extinguisher (as far as prefuse went) wasn't so hot. maybe he's got it back, tho

i really only fully and completely enjoy estrocaroᴱᴾ - vocal studies + uprock narratives - the '92 vs '02 collection and one word extinguisher

the rest are a bit hit and miss imo (some more hit then others) - been following since day one and own nearly

everything that has ever been released - curious to see what will happen next

guillermo scott herren and company are amazingly gifted musicians

I haven't really been impressed by anything after One Word. That and Vocal Studies are the ones I like the most. However I admit that I haven't given anything after One Word that much of a listen.

I didn't like Security Screenings or Preparations, but thought he redeemed himself with Ampexian. Everything before Security Screenings is classic and near perfect.

Good to hear, I'm a big fan of Prefuse 73... Security screenings was a little weak, but I don't think his mind/heart was really in that one. Preparations was decent, and I actually dug Amepexian a lot, different yes but definitely ambitious. I'm curious to see where this new effort takes him.

this is also an interesting comment, the contact microphones could certainly allow for some interesting samples to be recorded. Perhaps like a Prefuse 73 glitch-hop version of Amon Tobin's Foley Room, I'd be interested in hearing that

I like a lot of his non-Prefuse stuff (although I simply cannot get on with Savath and Savalas). He was also half of A Cloud Mireya, yes? Singular was a lovely album. Although if GSH has ever had the sexy time with Claudia Deheza then I hate him from this day on.

I'm with you on the last 2 but kinda gave up after he went all savath Y savalas with that project... meditations was pretty good too so there's reason to be optimistic for this
