I prefer the Quaristice Ambience more than the Oversteps flavour

The Quaristice, Quadrange, and Versions "ambient" type tracks are amazing.

The ones on Oversteps and Move of Ten are amazing too, they just lack the depth, feeling, space, and lushness of the other stuff.

The tracks I mean are like:

Notwo

Outh 9x

Perlence Suns

some of the 90101 stuff

and lots of other ones

I miss that type of music, there isn't enough of it in the world.

I have to agree, but I still like Oversteps a lot more as a whole. Outh 9x at least is a lot better than anything off Oversteps.

I am fuckin obsessed with Outh9x

Ambient Quaristice is some of the most golden liquid synthness I've ever heard. And let's not forget nu-Nr6d... sheer perfection

Paralel Suns

edit: bitches be using FSOL on the outro of a German political discussion show, right now, wtf

i should give quaristice another chance really. i need to sit down and compile a perfect playlist, eliminating the annoying tracks.

i actually have to add tracks (versions replaced longer tracks, japanese bonus, quadrange) to quaristice to fully enjoy it, but i know how you feel i have to take out about 30% of over steps and moves of then to not find them very underwhelming.

Recently been listening to a lot of the 90101 related tracks and loving them.

Yeah that's another good one...

Paralel Suns is amazingly beautiful... I tend to forget about it.. but I always feel like it's part 2 of Simmm... I don't feel like I can enjoy those two tracks by themselves but together they're amazing!

Paralel Suns is weird for me.

When Quaristice came out I had just gotten really into Autechre the year before, so I was really excited to hear their newest thing & so I bought it immediately and listened through the whole thing, and I thought it was the most experimental, out-there thing I'd ever heard.

With autechre I get some peculiar abstract visuals usually, if I relax and listen, but when Paralel suns came on all I could see was this giant purple hand floating against a pitch black background. Like, nothing and a big purple open hand just floating out there. No arm, just a massive hand.

That night I had a dream I was living at my old house and I was outside walking around and the world is being all peaceful and shit and it's a nice day... and the purple hand appears, and as soon as I see it the sky turns all kinds of psychedelic colors and patterns..a pleasant dream turns into a nightmare. This happened a lot since then although less frequently as I've gotten older. Paralel Suns is always there and its all I hear in the dream by that point. Eventually everything that is "real" in my dream becomes a bunch of abstract 3-dimensional shapes from like you'd see on some of their album artwork (more likely due to me being really into that kind of stuff rather than the dream having anything to do with autechre tbh) with either a pure white or pitch black background, and the purple hand just floating about like it always does, slowly and in one direction sort of like a blimp or hot air balloon. To be honest I've had some really scary dreams but these ones are on another level, just because it's such an odd thing to have recurring dreams about, and the big purple hand segments just last so long & nothing about it makes sense.

It is a very nice track and I do still listen to it, though. I gave it a listen just now and having all these memories flood back to my brain is giving me the creeps as I'm alone & it's almost 4 am.

Now with all that irrelevant shit out of the way, I think Quaristice is probably my favorite Autechre album actually.

The other day I was listening to Quaristice and "Theswere" came on, and I was so pleasantly surprised by how silly and fun the track was. I had forgotten it existed. It is like the "Goon Gumpas" of Autechre.

chenc9 through outh9x is a slam dunk. don't see chenc9 mentioned very often, or is it? the latter half of it.. hints of anvil vapre/tri rep

i love tracks from both quarastice and and oversteps periods.

particular favourite -

quarastice - The Plc(lCpC), Altichyre, Perlence (losid 2) (subrange 6-36), Notwo, Outh9X

oversteps - ilanders, known(1), Treale, nth Dafuseder.b, rew(1), (not too familiar with names yet on MOT)

i like pretty much all the tracks on all releases, and some more then others and these are my favourites.

oversteps and MOT are too new at the moment, need more time

what is it with people calling tracks like pt2ph8 ambient? just because there are no beats doesn't automatically make it ambient!!

I think you'd have a point if you were complaining about Known1 or See on See but I don't see how pt2ph8 isn't ambient....

one of my old highschool friends used to think ambience meant swearing. i dunno how he came to that conclusion, but i remember telling him once that i made ambient music, and he said to me, with a surprised look on his face, "what? you mean lots of swearing?". i have to say i zoled!
