new maschine videos

Recommended Posts

you guys may have seen these already, but i shot these for NI a few weeks ago, and they've just posted them. only reason i'm putting them in here is because i think these dudes are actually pretty damn good. arty hip-hop, in a way. the second video is the more impressive one skills-wise, though. the guy is unbelievably quick on the pads. neeto.

brrrrrr....mm..maschine

2nd vid is pretty cool...was thinking he should just learn to play the drums till the bass line came in...its pretty cool, but i dont really see how pad sampling showcases anything particularly special about maschine. vids are really well done. props!

iphone indeed.

The NI rep I talked to in Austin really sold me on maschine. I told him everything I like about the electribes, and what I didn't like feature wise on maschine vs tribes since maschine is more mpc like. Anyway, he made a pretty good case for it, and I would have one if it had x0x style sequencing.

maschine actually does have a 16-part step sequencing mode. you select your sounds and the pads illuminate sequentially, and you can program thusly.

not sure if that's what you mean by the x0x style sequencing, but it's definitely there.

I mean a 1x16 as opposed to 4x4 grid. I know it's silly but i just don't like the 4x4.

if this is an official video released by native instruments, their marketing team has really gone down hill. I guess it's good to expand over to whitebohy hip hop but i miss the days when NI was releasing compilations a lineup like this

to be fair, the marketing team had to expand beyond selling to the 900-odd glitchy IDM producers that actually buy software in order to actually make money.

maschine's success has allowed for the development of reaktor 5.5 among other things.

i'm not a huge hip-hop fan, but i appreciate the mr. invisible guys for being authentic and talented. maschine's focus is very much hip-hop oriented, but i'm doing my damndest to get some content going for the die-hards. hopefully reaktor 5.5 will allow for that.

Maschine still has a ton of IDM shit included but the utter focus on hip hop is pretty annoying, yeah. There's an Amon Tobin kit that's quite good and a Telefon Tel Aviv kit (but it sucks), and probably the usual richard devine shit somewhere in there too. But I agree that it sucks that they market the thing almost exclusively to the hip hop crowd. I think Booka Shade is the only non-hip hop artist in any of their videos.

I don't like step sequencing on a 4x4 grid either. I don't think it's silly. It's pretty hard to visualize a single part that way, much less the relationship of a part to another part. 16x1 is much more straightforward. My ideal step sequencer would be a 32 step wide grid with like 8 rows for different parts.

I think I may finally be sold on one. It will have to wait though. I've got to finish buying all the stuff for a new computer and more i/o. As it stands, I won't let myself buy anything else until I have inputs for all my hardware. Even though maschine is not in the true hardware category, it still counts, cuz i need to be able to hook up my other stuff first! Plus my music computer is on it's last leg and isn't running too good these days, and I would certainly run into latency issues working on any kind of track with instruments/fx loaded and trying to trigger samples at the same time.

I actually once had a setup of my electribe, when i had the esx, mapped via midi ox, to kontakt. It worked surprisingly well, but some stuff would get messed up, or there would be a certain midi filter setting I couldn't find to turn off on the sx, and it would trig all kinds of weird stuff and I just gave up eventually though. So i've always wanted something like maschine, though I'd rather have it laid out like an electribe, but I guess you just gotta take what's offered :)

Perhaps I can work out a way to integrate the electribes with maschine in the future. hmmm.

understood, is the nature of capitalism. That's why my respect for companies like Cycling74 has outlasted Native Instruments. They focus more on the innovation/creative aspect rather than expanding their company and profits yearly. NI lost a lot of their luster a long time ago for me, probably starting with Guitar Rig and then final nailing the coffin with Kore

This may be true in some cases but I don't think NI has reached that point yet. What beef could you possibly have with Guitar Rig? It's a great piece of software and Rig Kontrol is damn sexy.

Then again I am sort of an NI whore.
