If any of you are in or near NYC, The Film Society of Lincoln Center is showing 9 of his films in a couple weeks and he will be there in person to talk for each screening. I am so going.

can you recommend just one to watch.. ?

They are all good (as far as what I've seen, anyway).

I would maybe start with Altered States.

I've seen Gothic, Women in Love, Lair of the White Worm (my personal fave), The Devils, Valentino, Altered States, Tommy and Aria.

There are tons more I want to see.

I may hit up that Lincoln Center retrospective and get a pass so I can go to 3 films.

never really dug his stuff for some reason. some trippy visuals but beyond that pretty meh... 'altered states' got a bit too goofy for me..

His stuff is definitely WAY goofy but that's kinda why I love him. He definitely doesn't give a fuck.

the devils is fucking awesome! horney nuns and satanism. and oliver reed was absolutly fantastic as well, one of his best i would say.

ken russell lives in southampton or swanage, as far as i know. marc kammode did a feature on him a few years ago, then they showed 'the devils' and it was fucking amaizng.
