Plants are able to remember information and react to it, thanks to an internal communications system that can be likened to a central nervous system in animals, according to a new study by a Polish plant biologist.

Plants "remember" information about light, and a certain type of cell transmits that information, much like nerves do in animals.

As reported by the BBC July 14, scientists found that light shining on a leaf cell triggered a cascade of events that was immediately signaled to the rest of the plant via a type of cell called a bundle sheath cell. Those cells exist in every part of a plant. Karpinski, of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland, measured the electrical signals from those cells, and compared it to finding a central nervous system for plants.

I'm currently in a mode of believing anything on ex-supernatural so yeah, plants have a memory.

My house plant is being a prick. I water it to near laboratory level precision, move it into the light whenever it's a sunny day and give it monthly plant food and the bastard still decides to have near permanent yellowy brown leaves and looks like someone's dragged it through a hedge.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Grass "screams" when you cut it (only can be heard on an ultrasonic level) with the mower.

i wonder if the flowers outside my room remember all those times i neglected them.

also, for some reason i really enjoy talking to plants after taking mescaline, but i'm usually joking with them, cuz they know they can't understand a word i'm saying in my fake french accent.

GHOST: have you killed Claudius yet
HAMLET: no
GHOST: why

plants are more than just seemingly still shapes. they are living beings. their presence in the ecosystem is equally relevant in any aspect of life's balance.

a grove of the same plant species will likely to communicate in order to sustain its life. for example, many geological years ago in Africa, one giraffe might find an acacia grove and decide to feed on it. the water is scarce in equatorial lands, so the plant struggles to survive. along comes a giraffe, which also needs to feed. as the giraffe ate most of the acacia's leaves, acacia had to develop some kind of defense in order to survive. the thorns began to grow. as the giraffe began learned how to eat acacia's leaves around the thorns, the thorns grew bigger. in a response to that, giraffe's thong got longer, so that it can pick leaves around the thorn. acacia then developed a poison, a tannin compound for defense. when a giraffe begins to feed on one tree out of the grove, the attacked tree immediately begins to produce extra tannin to build-up the amount of poison in their leaves. after that, they release a 'message' to inform the grove of the giraffe's attack, so that other acacias can defend themselves. giraffe's adopted to this defense by eating tress that grow out of the way of the wind, to feed on the trees that couldn't have been informed by the winds.

sorry for the offtopic..... but yeah...plants are awesome

I remember reading an article about this, and how they can feel pain... I don't remember the link but it had an actual recording of the sound shifted down a few octaves, creepy noise.

i dont get what the point of grass "screaming" would be. Animals scream to alert other animals of danger so they can gtfo or htfo (help the fuck out). Im sure its not a scream so much as the grass equivalent of shitting yourself upon death.

also let yahoo clear this whole shit up
