Ableton Ping Pong delay related question

Recommended Posts

The Ping Pong Delay in ableton is an effect that I love to use. The only problem is that its pretty obvious when you use it because of the panning from L to R.

Ive posted a picture of the particular effect in case people are not familiar.

Right well then, the question is: Can I get rid of the panning cause by this effect and just have a constant delay subcutaneously in left and right. I realise that this is the whole point of the ping pong delay but the reason I ask is because I like this effects interface a lot. You can see that you can pick the saturation(or what ever you would call it) of the feedback with the high if the wave and the frequency range of the delay with the position. I love this set up as I like to have low frequency delay while still keeping the higher frequencies sharp.

If this isnt actually possible then could someone recommend a effect that I can do this with? Preferably a free one.

KTHX watmm.

I adore Ableton but the delays just don't cut it I don't think. I use the Filter Delay alot, but for proper dubby tape saturation i use this little plugin, the only downside is that it doesn't have MIDI synch, whilst Ableton's do.

I've found a way of using two Filter Delays with the feedback on the first one quite low, and above 90% on the second one, whilst bringing the EQ width up to saturate it. Obviously using two is way more hassle than you need but that's one way of doing it.

Or just use Ping Pong and put it in mono?

Put a Utility effecy after it and use it as a mono effect. Could work unless you want to maintain the stereo information of the source signal your wanting feed into. Otherwise I guess you're looking at a different effects plugin....

Yes I'd try the utility thing. You have to choose left or right channel tho so you kinda only get half the info.

Someone mentioned filtered delay which works.

Also if you get kungfu at the reverb, it has the same feedback effect.

Ya, you could try the filter delay and separate the left and right channels, not sure if you would get the same sound. Or you could just use the L+R insput and turn the other two off, idk. Haven't messed around w/ the filter delay much.

This sounds like it might work. Ill report back when i try it.

I enjoy the fragility of the rolling lol tbh. The broken lol is like our own mortality staring us in the face, reminding us to enjoy that sunset.

don't be afraid of ping-pong being cheesy. it's all about how you use it. technically ping-pong is a more realistic type of delay - consider how a sound echoes around a room, bouncing off the walls and whatnot. granted we're talking about a strictly square shaped room, but if you keep the stereo width subtle enough then you're well on your way to making a natural sounding echo.

try TAL-dub. it's fantastic

Good point. I'll give Tal-dub a shot!

Yeah, either that or Audio Damage's DubStation. That's one powerful delay plugin!

Btw. this might be a bit of an amateurish question, but I only use Ableton for live jobs and not for producing. So my question is, how do I create a bus channel for my plugins so for instance the delay gets to fade out by itself. I've been fooling around with the send channels and they seem to work like bus channels, but as far as I can see there are only two send channels and I can't create more than those two... or...?
