Anne Rice quits Christianity (Again)

i never really bought her whole "born again" deal, seems like the more pain people have in their lives the more they turn to religion. anyway, i agree a lot of the problems she has with it are the reasons i've never believed in such a single-minded, prejudicial and judgemental dogma.

this sick, filthy and hostile american version of christianity always irritated me.

It seems she still believes in Christ, just doesn't wish to be aligned with the political agendas of mainstream Christianity. I'm kind of with her, I don't think the role of the church is in picketing and lobbying.

I recently wrote a little rant in a Christian thread about whether or not Paul would be a lobbyist. He was a Roman citizen who lived during the time of Caligula, who was of course known for sexual scandal and was even bi-sexual. Orgies and such were commonplace in Rome, however you never once see Paul lobbying for them to change the laws. In fact he says that it is not for him to judge those outside the church, God will judge them, it is just up to him to govern those inside. His interaction with those outside the church is always only to spread the gospel (he may tell them to repent of sin, but as part of a gospel plan of action).

I don't want to hijack the thread, but it seems that history has judged Caligula. The point is that with even someone with his reputation, Paul still did not take to lobbying and picketing. Instead of condemning people, he was about telling people how to get saved. He recognized whether it was Caligula, Hitler, Anne Rice or you or me, EVERYONE is vile in the sight of God because of their sin, yet EVERYONE is also loved by God and can have it all permanently wiped away.

Why would I judge someone for being bisexual when I just was watching some Carli Banks girl girl online. I have vices and I slip up, but at the same time I'm going to recognize it as such and work on it rather than pretend it is perfectly good for me to do those things.

I just thought it was funny that with all of the alleged depravity surrounding Caligula (not the least of which was making one of his horses a consort, all the murder, or claims to divinity, etc.) you seemed to latch on to the bisexuality as being the most icky before de bright and shining eyes of de lawd. It was in your phrasing, is all.

Regardless, Caligula is pretty interesting since he went from being kind of wonderful to bat shit insane with syphilis and power in such a short period of time.

Ah I see. I posted my original rant in a thread about gay marriage, so I focused on his sexuality to make my point. I guess I repeated it here but the context wasn't as clear.
