From Stones Throw:

  Quote
Madlib has always called himself a DJ first, producer second, with jazz music as his first love and inspiration. With that in mind you might say this is what he does best.

The title card of Madlib Medicine Show No. 8 reads: Imagine an 80-minute music history course talking place in a dusty, hazy studio with wall-to-wall jazz vinyl - records from the past 40 years – jazz, fusion, funky, obscure. This course will not be graded. There will be no lecture. Madlib’s at the turntable. Class is now in session.

The front & back cover is the painting Jazzcats Crossing the Hudson (info). CD contains an 8-page booklet.

I'm think I'm going to feel a little empty once the Medicine Show series is finally over. Amazing that so many releases in one year can be so consistent.

Holy crap I need to get some of this stuff and I think this #8 will be the first !

Are all the releases that good ? Cause it represents a lot of money if I want to get all of these

Was just about to create a thread- this mix should be amazing! Cover painting is awesome as well. Also just ordered Pt. 7 (High Jazz)

Most of these are definitely worth getting, ranked the ones I have (and will have soon!) The mixes have all been amazing so far...

1. 8: Advanced Jazz

2. 7: High Jazz

3. 6: Brain Wreck Show

4. 4: 420 Chalice All Stars

5. 2: Flight to Brazil

Can't wait to see where he's going to go after this mix, with four albums still to go.

Yeah, maybe a disc of new Madlib remixes and a hip-hop mix? A rare funk or 45s mix? Who knows, he's covered a lot of genres already...

Thanks for the advices, I'll check this list soon. I noticed that he released CDs of his own stuff (like "Loop Digga something"), are those mixed too ??

Oh that would be awesome, since there are so many funky gems !

In my opinion:

5 > 3 > 6 > 2 > 4 > 1

Have not heard #7 yet

Me being a Madlib addict, my opinion is important :P

I need a huge poster of that album cover.

Yes, most definitely! Many on the Stone's Throw boards were asking for a poster of the Jazz Cats Crossing the Hudson. Check this out- I didn't notice the "Headhunter" in the background right away.

Hahaha, that's brilliant, I totally missed that as well! What a sneaky reference.

The odd #'s are his own compositions.

A vintage 80s hip-hop mix would be mindblowing if it was done by Madlib.

Got #7 on CD today by the way, I don't think there are any other artists whose albums I'd pay to download AND buy physically just through being too impatient to hear and own them

I was hoping for an 80s one as well, I think it could be pretty mindblowing given how many obscure records he has. And of course I'm hoping 9 or 11 are new Madvillain!

Too right, that would be insane. Can't quite see that happening as part of this series though, I'd imagine that'd be a proper high-profile Stones Throw release in its own right (not that Madlib's obscure or low-key, of course).

I want him to do Asia.

Not to keen on #7, my least favorite so far. There are a few in this series I adore though. Had a great time last weekend playing football, smoking weed while listening to Flight to Brazil.

there's no monk in that pik !! i guess he doesn't cover him nor bird in his mix, but still, monk comes with warm hat, perfect for crossing cold hudsons.

A member of the non sequitairiate.

Agreed, I mean, Deodato had some jams, but he probably should have been swapped out for Thelonius....

Man you could have equally put a bunch other cats on that just as easily, Bud Powell, Tony Williams, Roy Ayers, etc. Besides I can't imagine the mix being limited to those depicted, that's just not how madlib rolls...

Anyway motherfucking madlib motherfuck you for being so motherfucking prolific such that a dude can't possibly keep up with you (that said, I'd rather have too much than too little :cisfor: )

Anyway if some of y'all are looking to check out some older but definitely still fresh madlib there's always the Mind Fusion series (very similar actually, some mixtapes, some original productions). This Remixes 2 - 1980s Saturday Morning Edition is pretty dope too.

Fuck Bob, I only have Mind Fusion 1 and 2, but if I had kids I'd sell them to get hold of the other three. If I could have them all on CD I'd sell my pucker to the lowest bidder.
