Anamorphic Typography

i have seen this a lot and i really want to know how you map it out. is there a program or do you use a projector of sorts?

I've kinda wondered how they plan it out myself, I've seen some pretty impressive perspective art done in various places

Couldn't you use a projector and then trace the projection onto the surfaces?

I really like this stuff. I have seen a really cool one in a parking garage, where they had big ENTER, EXIT, etc. text.

definitely pretty cool but on the slightly relevant note this stuff still impresses me a lot more

Looking at it i don't see how it could be a projector, wouldn't the image closer to the lens be bigger and the ones further away smaller, like when you stand in front of one projecting text, the text becomes larger on your body.

But the one in the hall way has text scaled in proportion.

Maybe be im over thinking it :D

If you build something in 3D that is projected onto a wall or a staircase and afterwards flatten out the project onto a plain then you get the right result.

Yeah that's it...I guess it was UP and DOWN rather.

That site is cool, but typography is a bit more impressive than text, and I wish he would show different angles rather than just the "correct" one, so you could really get a feel for it.

I always presumed it was a projector. You see it on sports fields/courts etc so the logo fits for the tv camera. I'm pretty sure a projector would work

I imagine the artist makes the sketch beforehand, either on a photograph or a hand drawn copy of the room. The rest is a matter of carefully duplicating the sketch and shading on a 3-d environment.

or you could simply DIY it with a stencil and a laser pointer (pocket, whatever) and another person to mark the vertices on each surface.

Those eyes are nice.

But yeah, by recreating the geometry you can make software project it using the right perspective.
