beariksson
SENKING - Pong CD audio + CD data raster-noton R-N 122 Release date: September 6 www.raster-noton.net PONG - referring to the classic video game - is Senking's fiffth release on raster-noton, moving its focus on stretched dubstep rhythms. To these slow motion grooves, he adds shredded melodies, sub basses and echoes, which create an atmosphere like an Angelo-Badalamenti-soundtrack known from David Lynch's movies. His electronic sound aesthetic reflects rather an organic texture than a machine made algorithm. In tradition of former dub producers, he generates his tracks while playing, and therefore they appear to be momentary. They are aware of the club, but do not want to serve it. At Berlin's CTM 2010 Senking proofed that PONG can be massive on stage as well. A 3D-interpretation of classic PONG by visual artists and software producers of almost sync is attached to the album in a mac and windows version. track list 1. unlighted 5:27 2. luma 5:14 3. painbug in my eye 4:09 4. death by drowning 3:30 5. low flow 9:12 6. breathing trouble 3:45 7. mimi 6:34 8. jeyemusik
Listening to the samples it sounds quite nice and I think I'll probably get it at some point... some of the more dubsteppy synths feel a bit weird in this context. The cynic in me wonders if Raster Noton would release this album if they'd been sent it as a random demo as opposed to something done by their mates... acroyear
Just got it, and so far it's a very absorbing listen. Reminds me so much of Ping, and Thaw but updated. The more I hear, the more I like! I have a feeling I'll be playing this one over and over.
