Algorithms Are Thoughts, Chainsaws are Tools

I saw this earlier this evening and thought I might share: This is a video about live coding, which is the art of generating computer music in real time through coding languages.

The video starts off with somewhat of a lame intro before explaining the manifesto of a community of live coders and then moving on to the centerpiece: a live performance of a coded piece of music with an observer attempting to interpret the coding as it happens. Pretty fascinating stuff.

Well, here's one of those once-or-twice-a-year posts that makes checking WATMM almost worthwile. Thanks for posting. There's a real rabbinical quality to the narrator, like he's talking about the talmud or something.. Kinda funny.

I would say that graphical programming environments and actual coding are different. They have a different feel and somewhat different approach even if what's going on inside is the same.

With code it's way faster to make something new if you know the structure, thus the fair amount of live coding but not much live reaktor patch creation.

Also, fuck a mouse.
