Pitchfork names "Come To Daddy" #1 video of the 90s

Myspace and this site make too many things load at once. Clogs up my connection.

Cunningham needs the props. He was/ is great

bachelorette should have been #1

this sounds like an airplane landing on a minefield

why do people still take notice of what Pitchfork says? As if they're some sort of authority on anything?

Come To Daddy is absolutely not the best video of the 90s.

Even limiting to Aphex videos, I think it would be beat by Windowlicker & On, possi-...oh no I'm criticizing an arbitrary list of things on the internet.

Agree

I'll retract my statement a bit, and say I'm really just stoked and surprised to see the quintessential pretentious, superficial, indie online music reviewing site praise Aphex Twin/Cunningham on such a list in 2010.

On second look, the list is a bit off. Gondry might as well have been in a #1 slot with so many videos listed. I'm shocked that "Elektrobank" is listed instead of "Star Guitar," absence of the Portishead vid by Cunningham, and where the hell is Weezer's "Buddy Holly?"

Oh well, they also seem to think Spike Jonze is overrated compared to Gondry and Cunningham, and I agree.

This list doesn't make any sense...

Windowlicker should surely be there, and so should the Coffee and Tv video which appears in the banner but isn't even on the list

its a top 50 list with windowlicker on #11 and coffee and tv #14

I never knew the milk carton guy was from anything, I thought he was just some image that the internet produced. Or like, from an obscure european commercial. Also I don't like Chris Cunningham I'd say most of the musicians I like have good enough music videos but I always thought there was better stuff around. Like probably best video of the 90's is some random k-pop shit where the song sucks but the video is inexplicably good

something like the On music video is a lot more honest to me Cunningham's stuff is so 'look what I can do' I don't know if him and Michel Gondry are considered FRIGHTENINGLY ORIGINAL but their videos even though maybe unique compared to other directors always seems samey to me like once I've seen one of their videos I've seen them all. Maybe I'd be more into it if I saw this shit when it came out. Come to Daddy video in 1999 etc.

Edit: 1997

I'll echo the above and say that the 'On' music video is my favorite aphex video, and one of my favorite videos of all time. extreeeeme nostalgia

i respect pitchfork more than popular music review magazines/ sites but it's not as good as some other sites/magazines

Basically a Chris Cunningham, Mark Romanek, Jonathan Glazer, Spike Jonez and Michel Gondry circle jerk.

*edit*

Windowlicker wins.

this is the same website that will happily call you the greatest band in the world if you are fat, have beards, sound like early 70s beach boys and put tits in your video, so um, MEH

that made me lol, b/c they've seriously been all about lo-fi beach music and NSFW hipster shit videos lately

You know, I swear I saw that used during a network bumper on Nickelodeon as a kid in the early 90s, which would of inadvertently been my first exposure to Aphex Twin. Tt really shows the warmer side of his music.

They've also been championing electronic and more "serious" fringe stuff than rival indie sites and mp3 blogs. I rather read pitchfork on their most pretentious BS day of reviews than any shit Rolling Stone puts out.

The articles and columns they write like Poptimist try to be so thought provoking and insightful like it's making some keen observation on our culture, but it's basically just bullshit wordsalad.
