beach house

i can't get into teen dream. it's like a flat version of their debut or devotion.

listen to their self titled album and then report back. try to tell me that this new one is as good as that.

self titled is better. way better.

teen dream is much, much better. the songwriting is stronger, the production is better. it's like a better band writing beach house songs.

my favorite is devotion, especially for its production and overall mood, but the other 2 are excellent as well.

I listened to Teen Dream for the first time last night to see what all the hype was about. It didnt grab me at all.

the first two albums have a couple good songs, sure, but they completely stepped up their game on teen dream. it's just more accessible. nothing on the other albums beats this:

i like teen dream much better myself. i find devotion very linear or singular. teen dream is more realized, imo of course.

teen dream is the most overrated record of the last five years.

the reason i make this thread is i see people who generally have the same taste as me raving about "teen dream."

i listen to it - it sounds kind of bloated. "zebra?" i don't get it. it's pompous or something. maybe not the right word for it... it's overblown and bombastic.

i consider "teen dream" a theatrical, overblown version of their previous albums. i could lay back and get sucked into the analog sounds and beautiful haze of the first two.

this one misses that, and it seems to want to fit in with "indie/pitchfork musical trends" which kind of bothers me.

as in: airy voices singing harmonies ("ooos, ahhhs"), "beach boys," bombast

why does it bother you that a record got good reviews? just listen to their first two records then. or write them a letter explaining how you feel and request that they revert to their old aesthetic instead of doing things that get them widespread acclaim.

haha i had the same thought.

and im with whoever said let it go, vamos. you don't like it. that's cool. i do, lots of other people do. maybe you're seeing something we're not. maybe it's the opposite of that. who cares?

Their first one will always be really special for me and I like the whole thing, but Teen Dream is really good! I agree that they stepped it up.
