Internal Sequencers on Plugins

Recommended Posts

So I've never been a fan of using any plugin's internal sequencer, but so many have them that some of you guys must use them.

Do you use them?

Why?

What plugins?

Do you have any tricks, general or plugin-specific?

How do you get around issues with polyrhythm? 32nd notes? Odd time signatures? Other things your DAW can do but the plugin cannot?

I sometimes use the Toxic Biohazard's random function with the internal sequencer, but overall I find them really irritating/ counterproductive for the way I work.

Anyone know of a sequencer-type plugin that could give formula-controlled 'randomness' to something? (aside from building a patch in Max/MSP as I have no clue how to work it.

http://www.kvraudio.com/get/3374.html maybe this?

that's awesome, i wish someone did a software recreation of my favorite modular synth module, the blacet binary zone

i'm not sure which kind of sequencing it's doing but you control it all with 4 knobs and the results can sound pretty awesome.

generally they're too indirect for me to be effective with.....

a custom arp or stepped filter is about as far as i want.

same here. most of those internal sequencers leave me wanting more, so I just don't use em. The only real exception is the Matrix in Reason.

I'm trying to think of some off my head, but I just can't. The only one that's really popping out is from Vaz Modular. Love that seq to death. Have used it for many great sounds.

There's actually one sequencer vst plug that looked like it was good and in depth, but i never looked into it. I'll try and track it down.

Also, the lack of good seq's in vsts was my primary reason for getting an electribe emx. Now I have 16 parts blinking in front of me I can sequence soft synths and drums with. Tis nice, and cheap.

Edit: Found what I was talking about. It's actually more an arp, but still looks quite usable, i may pick it up for fun.

It's called Catanya by 7aliens

Looks fantastic, I'll give it a go tomorrow. Thanks, man.

the internal sequencers on all the D16 and AudioRealism stuff are all excellent - i actually prefer working with individual sequencers all running together, closer to how i work on hardware (or used to work on hardware until i got numerology anyway).

man I gave them the old college try (using their sequencers I mean), but I couldn't get on with it. Well, except the Phoscyon, but I don't even use it's sequencer all the time. In fact, I just use samples now in lieu of the D16 drum machines. But that's a whole other story.

i cant get Nithonananat to work without its internal seq. i can make the midi light flash, but it no makes noises. this is with fruity as the host. helpz?

*goes back to hardware*

i know this may sound obvious but play notes c3 and up and see if that works. maybe even higher.
