Minimoog Voyager XL

at first i thought this was an awesome idea.

then i realised that it's completely redundant.

the whole point of the Voyager series was that it was an analogue synth with digital patch recall

so....how are you going to digitally recall some physical patch cables?

it does seem kind of like an unnecessary bridge...never played the voyager though

It looks lovely. I'm never going to spend that kind of cash on a synth though.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

The Voyager is equipped with plenty of patchable inputs as it is, but it lacks outputs - you need the breakout box for those (my next purchase, when I have the cash). This looks like a combination of the two with an extra octave of keys and added convenience. Not sure what the price difference is off the top of my head. But physical cables are already part of the Voyager experience - it's all set up to interface with Moogerfoogers or any suitable CV kit. If digital patch recall is a vital component, just take a photo of the cables on your phone. And hey presto!

I certainly can't afford one, but hopefully Rick Wakeman will buy 20 and help keep the Moog team employed so they can make something just as wonderful but much cheaper.

This is awesome. It's one of those moments where I have to overlook the pricetag, and appreciate the synth. Having the expanders right there, ms-20 style, is wonderful. I would love this thing. I've played a few voyagers and yes they aren't as drifty, or "dirty" as Model D's, they are amazing synths that have that Moog quality and sound. Do want.

What would be real cool is if it had a bigger lcd, like ala blofeld or Ion. And it could show you the patch points with a little diagram, per patch. That would be awesome!

I was a lil upset that Moog didn't put out a poly, becuase I would love one, and a lot of folks have been hyping moog's next big thing to be a poly.

I hope they still put out a *new* synth that isn't a minimoog, that is at least duophonic. But all that aside, I'd like to see less rehashing, despite the fact that the minimoog is such a standard, why not build on an already excellent machine.

I hope this drives regular voyager prices down, but it's unlikely.

Also I too, think it is beautiful.

+1

i too think the biggest weakness is the ui of the digital part - not even a rotary knob to zip thru presets?

i think they should make a rack unit that is nothing but a single voyager voice with just midi in, midi thru and audio out. then you could polychain those with a voyager to make a poly voyager.

You can zip through presets on the Voyager using the external input knob, as I recall (I don't use it that way myself, usually because I forget). Once you make a selection it goes back to its usual function.

There are a few shortcuts like that, but I'm not sure what OS they first appeared in. Often I've thought some function seemed long-winded and then discovered there's a nice shortcut - letters, cursor and shift key on the keyboard when entering text is another example. It's a nice challenge to input a patch name without making a typo.

"External input knob."

it is a sex bomb, but I have to agree with the yawn comment.

This is not for musicians. This is for collectors.

i think it's totally for musicians which is why it's so yawn. no cool light up knobs, just a bunch of things they already sell in one nice box, plus a sweet keyboard which would make it a really good master keyboard

master keyboard... yawn

i may be mistake here, but i don't think i've ever seen a ribbon controller on a Moog instrument.

that's what i get when posting during sleepy times - bad typos.

i wasn't mistaken though, technically...since i personally hadn't ever seen a Moog instrument with ribbon controller until you posted those pics.
