Redruth
Chronomad - Sayeh 1. Asylon 2. Labriz 3. Shir Quote Saam Schlaminger's Chronomad is a rarified project incorporating modes of Mid-Eastern and Western music situated somewhere between Muslimgauze, Shackleton and Demdike Stare. His two previous releases for The Notwist's Alien Transistor label have long been favourites in the office, offering a lighter adjunct to the politcally charged work of Muslimgauze. These are finely detailed and beautifully crafted pieces, blurring the distinctions between collage and composition to create vividly fragrant and subtly psychedelic scenarios. Opening track, 'Asylon' shapes a wonderfully florid scene with wailing (but not menacing) sirens woven into lilting rhythms from his electrified Zarb and Daf percussion, gradually raising the systolic pressure into a swelling head-rush of field recorded voices with a majestically mystic flourish. Following this, 'Labriz' opens to cobalt blue motifs before immersing us in a flash of passionately dramatic strings and percussion, subsiding into a darker alley of ominous electronics. 'Shir' meaning "Milk/Lion" is the most beautiful piece here, deploying slow, opiated percussion mingled with violin and ornate Saz pipe before piquant, sunlit electronics illuminate the scene and our perspective is drawn to distant bells and delicate environmental acousmatics. alien transistor boomkat Edited September 9, 2010 by troon Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/59524-chronomad-sayeh/ Share on other sites
