Flying Lotus - Pattern + Grid World

post-4195-098702000 1284715734_thumb.jpeg

Got this in the mail yesterday which was quite a surprise as I thought it wasn't released until next week, did anyone else receive it? First impressions are pretty good, the packaging for the Vinyl is excellent and I love the artwork and even the little poster.

Physics For Everyone! is my favourite track so far.

More impressions to follow.

I saw the 12" in a record shop in Norwich a few days ago which took me by surprise. Got the Japanese CD on order, which has a bonus track on it.

i didn't buy it for some reason. i guess i just got a little pissy with all the money i've been throwing Warp's way, for them to charge 9.99 for an EP, i didn't fall prey.

what with Rustie, Darkstar, The Gaslamp Killer, and Gonjasufi's remix album, there's a lot.

i am also dismayed at the Pattern+Grid World album art. I was so pleased with the look of Cosmogramma, but this is just ugly looking. i'll hear the album eventually...

that poster is better than the album cover.

I am halfway through the EP and its pretty decent so far, nothing to go gaga over.

Yeah, Pattern+Grid World compiles his most typical, yet uninteresting older tunes (notice the formula that consists of overused 8-bit synth and the similar beats). This is just more profit for Warp after the success of Cosmogramma. What a letdown, and LOL at people who were naive enough to preorder from Bleep.

Naw dude, Pie Face sounds incredibly awesome, inspired, and all that jazz. From the previews, that and Physics for Everyone! are my initial favorites

Can't see whats wrong with the art. Loving Kill your co-workers :music:

Oh shit ! I didn't notice that on the track list . It's about time he put that shit on something .

This was a little low on my list of ''Shit I need'', but since it has Kill Your Co-Workers...it's gotta get bumped up .

edit : The artwork is great .

I'm slightly impressed that he's followed Cosmogramma so quickly with an EP of new (or at least otherwise, presumably unreleased) tracks instead of just pillaging the album for a few lazy remixes. I thought the L.A. EPs (much as I liked them) were a lot more cynical than this.

For me, the most interesting thing about his new EP is the artwork. Quite a letdown after Cosmogramma.

i love the artwork and the tracks are pretty good, but it's painfully obvious it's just a quick cash-in after cosmogramma.

it's good tho, not incredible, but good. love kill your co-workers. and i'm glad to have the poster in my collection.

Yep, a cash-in after all the hype that Cosmogramma received. Kill your co-workers is a good track, but the rest seems fairly half-arsed to me, I dunno...yeah great poster though.

First couple of listens and not too impressed. kill your co-workers, camera day & physics for everyone stand out... the rest not so much (yet). But 18 mins?? For $10??? Can't help but feel ripped off... :(

I feel exactly the same.

Damn it's only 18 minutes long?

I guess that's pretty normal for an EP, but I expected more because of the number of tracks and the price. Maybe I'm just spoiled by autechre's last EP...
