Keith Fullerton Whitman has consistently blown our tiny minds this year with a stream of utterly crucial releases. Whether morphing the Arabic Oud

into majestically ornate formations or commanding his self-generating hybrid analogue/digital modular setup into unimaginable arrangements, we're witnessing

the culmination of years of dedicated research and experimentation blossoming into tangible, cherishable productions in 2010. Arguably, he's saved the best for

this LP, using masses of recordings gleaned from live improv and studio sessions between 2007-08 as the raw material for these compositions, created between

2008 and spring 2010. In the seventeen minutes of 'Disingenuity' we're subject to a cataclysmic display of cosmically attuned imagination, conjuring myriad

configurations of textures, shapes, contours and tones with the constant ability to shock, seduce and tear us apart at will. Within the ever shifting dimensions

of his arena, sounds are generated from his Doepfer Hybrid Modular Synth and made to radiate and ricochet from every surface, returning to our ears in a

different shape and space each time, violently unstable and cosmically chaotic, yet hopelessly engrossing, kinda like hearing a field recording from the big

bang. If that was the genesis, then 'Disingenuousness' is what came after, as the constellations settle into place and the excess energies disperse with reduced

velocity, homogenizing into alien harmonic structures and nuclear melodies with the deft electro-acoustic rendition of pioneers like Pierre Henry, Bernard

Parmegiani or Tod Dockstader, whose work he effectively continues today. If you love experiencing visceral, thrilling electronics that sounds like the music

of the stars, you simply owe it to yourself to listen to this album, you will thank yourself afterwards. **Please be aware, this album is strictly limited, housed

in custom printed outer-pvc with a design aesthetic worthy of the music contained within

What do watmmer's think of this?

Would appeal to the AE headz I'd imagine. I have heard a few clips and it sounds like the noise your brain would make reacting to snorting microchips mixed with stardust.

I guess I am 50/50 to buy it on vinyl but looking for a few good words perhaps to persuade me.

i didnt think it was the best piece on the album, and tbh i had to take some time to get into these ehh,..cosmic modular synth workouts of his, but i like it once a while. subotnick kinda sound...

this is his latest thing, i think, on "amish records":

(short excerpt of an 18 min track)

Wow, what I'm hearing here sounds tasty. Way more accessible than I thought it was (it's doesn't correspond to what I remember I've heard from him back in time).

I also listened back to Swarm & Dither three days ago and remembered how much that release is awesome. It gave me the curiosity to check other stuff by him once again, so this thread is very welcomed

edit : just realised the thread is from 2010. thanks for upping it anyway !

Awesome cover artwork and great music. The guy has a very interesting online music store www.mimaroglumusicsales.com. If I wasn't so obsessed right now with techno variations I would totally start getting into that stuff. Looks like a whole new continent of music to explore.

no youtube videos in the signature, lolz

much love,

squee

KFW is very good and I like his rough and ready live approach to making music which akin to Krautrock but with a fresh abstract edge.http://vimeo.com/18244639

defo checking out this new relase

Guest Wall Bird

Really nice guy, I see him frequently at shows around Boston and have spoken to him on one or two occasions.

The video just posted is great, I think it's a performance with his 'generator' system which is very neat. I recently got to see him play a really aggressive set with a modular setup one quarter of the size that he's performing with in that video. That guy is fast; constantly patching stuff and really showing off how much of a virtuoso he can be with a modular. I've never seen a performance like it.

He's about to take up residency in Paris for a week and do a gig in Austria. If any of you are in the area I highly recommend checking him out. He's a super nice guy, so don't hesitate to approach him. I hear he likes really good beer *hint hint*

that's really nice, it's glitchy but not in the same way as some of his other stuff that i've heard. What else of his has pretty synth work like this?

I caved in and got the vinyl. Something about this stuff that intrigues me. (From a galaxy far, far away. If you get my drift.)

Should be good.

Playthroughs is a beautiful album, my personal favourite by him. Also Yearlong is very very nice.

N/m. Found the digital copy on boomkat.

I find the artwork strangely addictive for some reason, hence the splurge on vinyl.

Sometimes it has to be done
