mushroom picking time

i have a question on mushrooms.

are mushrooms either edible or magic? or are there deadly ones?

You need to buy a field guide for picking mushroom. Of course there are poisonous ones. Were you kidding with this question?

There are shit tons of deadly ones yekker. Don't be trouncing around eating what you find. I would walk around with a guidebook or with somebody who has a great deal of experience mushrooming.

I wouldn't do it yourself unless you have a lot of experience with you at the time.

My annual question. Anyone know where I can get some in London? East would be best, but i have an oyster. I keep hearing Hampsted Heath, but its a big park.

Just make sure you know what you're looking for before you go hunting. With a bitta research, you can find out what grows in your area. Definitely find out if there is anything poisonous, especially if they look similar to the edible mushies. Most mushies have some sort of distinctive feature that you can't miss. (Such as the liberty cap, which has a little nipple top, but I don't think it grows in B.C.) Check the gills, cap shape/size, and colour.

Youre all making it sound like a trip through an Albanian mine field. Get a book/website with pictures and descriptions of mushrooms, take the pictures out into a field and if your sure they match, eat them, if youre not dont.

I dont think its rained enough in the south east of England for them to grow yet, but i might take a walk out this week sometime. Wish I was as proactive as i was when i was younger, there was one point i had about 50 000 liberty caps in the lining of my boiler, in paper sweet bags with about 100 in each. Paper sweet bags are handy for drying.

Aye there hasn't been all that much rain in the Pennines either yet, I do have mates that have found a few but it's probably a bit early to find hordes of the little buggers.

That said, the season does start at the top of the valley and work its way downwards, so it's probably worth keeping an eye on them
