chassis
So Ive accumulated a load of my crap. Most of its pretty good so Im thinking of releasing an album. Should I send my shit to netlabels, and if so, which ones? Should I just release it on bandcamp and fuck the effort of getting it on a label? Is there anything restricting about being on a netlabel? Hopefully I can get some info off you guys. Thanks watmm. Cryptowen
I think the big thing about a netlabel, even if it's just some guy hosting other people's releases on his website, is that it adds a certain sense of validation to your release. I know I've seen a few WATMM posters mention how they don't bother to listen to anything that isn't on some sort of label. You might get some publicity from it, but probably no more than if you got posted on a popular music blog (which might in fact be quite a bit of publicity if you end up on the right one). I'm actually rather curious myself as to what the better known blogs/netlabels are. purlieu
It's difficult to tell which are the most well known netlabels out there, given that every time I take a peek online I seem to stumble across several hundred more. It's an over-saturated market. It's a nice way to get your work out, though, as not only does it give some sort of validation, but it does guarantee you more listeners than if you put it out yourself, even if it's just the guy who runs the label. There are also hundreds if not thousands of DIY labels who put out handmade and short run CDr releases - and cassettes, if you like that sort of thing - and most sell them for pretty cheap, so maybe that's something to look into also. And of course there are CD/LP labels who do shorter runs and take on unknown artists still, even if the more well known labels are pretty much impossible to crack these days. Do some research, check links sections on websites, keep your eyes peeled. There are ways to get your music out there. And of course there's still always Bandcamp. But then I thought I might research this avenue. The problem with my own site is Id need to do all the advertising and build up credibility. Rather than just being a cling-on on some netlabel, which is easier Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide chassis's signature Hide all signatures Reveal hidden contents Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/60017-prlabelreleasing-etc/#findComment-1424217 Share on other sites

Thanks watmm. if i were you i'd go to the obvious sites, upload, and wait to see if anybody else said they actually like the "crap" i'd made, first.. before trying to get on any sort of label. don't assume just cos you like the tracks you make that other people will and that it should be released. sorry. harsh but true. i remember being 20, thinking what i was doing was awesome, and loving making little tunes on my computer. looking back now though after some time, i realise what i was doing was absolute shit.. lol. top tip, listen to your stuff first thing in the morning and be critical of yourself.
