Guest AcrossCanyons
welcome to europe is one of my favourite and most played 12s - some of my favourite squarepusher work, love it. gunnar
Hello Everything has got some great melodies, but a little boring on the beat programming side Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/60076-hello-everything-bleepcom-singles-welcome-to-europe-exciton-hanningfield-window/#findComment-1425362 Share on other sites
phudoshin
Yeh... the beat-programming devolved quite a bit after Venus 17.......the melodies, bass, acid-lines and structure have remained consistently good though. I wonder, why? Many reasons I suppose. It all seems like more or less one drum-loop now. We miss the frenetic beats!!! Retape
when asked about why the less amen mangling on HE in an interview, he answered quite simply "because the track didn't need it". so there you go. The combination of the relatively tame beats with excellent melodies creates awesome songs where the sum is greater than the components alone. Also, I fail to comprehend why Hanningfield Window wasn't on the album Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/60076-hello-everything-bleepcom-singles-welcome-to-europe-exciton-hanningfield-window/#findComment-1425406 Share on other sites
Retape
also my opinion on the single is that exciton are kinda cool when you're in a certain JAS/rock/energetic mood. hanningfield is also quite good, but I like every track on HE better than it (save for vacuum garden, lulz). welcome to europe is brilliant. the melody is brilliant. vamos scorcho
i think of Hello Everything onward as SP's "colorful" period. more focus on colorful videogameish melodies, almost no focus on beatfucks. unfortunately with Hello Everything I feel rather let down. it may be my least favorite SP album, though the melodies are often quite good. it feels a bit empty. still though, it's a very good album. just not my favorite, by a long shot.
