between all the fresh releases i still find listening space for my past tunes/favorite records ever, so lately

between

ninja tune boxset,

flying lotus' 2010 tunes,

aardvarck's choice,

urban tribe's new LP

ceephax (kind of new to me)

oval's oh,

i have been re-experiencing

drukqs,

biosphere's dropsonde,

black dog productions 90's gems (mostly balil)

luke vibert and plug,

miles davis quiet nights, a fantastic jazz meets bossanova record.

what is watmm up to?

Pretty much these. Temple of Transparent Bells and Spanners have really thrown Plaid right out of the picture for me (except Heaven's Door.... Fuck is that gorgeous). Plaid can be melodic rapists a lot of the time. Drukqs I am finally coming to terms with the timbral shallowness, I now feel like this is a really balanced and rewarding album. There is that Eno-esque restraint all over this album, but also moments of complete release ie Meltphace and Cock/V.

For me it's been early Amon Tobin.. Like Bricolage and Permutation... "Mission" is brilliant.

Lateralus has been making a bit of a comeback, but then again it never really goes away.

Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here

And Super_Collider, plenty of that. Seeing Jim tonight so I guess it makes sense.

I'm also wondering whether Massive Attack's Mezzanine is as amazing as I always thought it was...

i always get back to Amon Tobin too.

one of the first that got me into electronic music. the first track from supermodified, 'get your snack on' still sounds exactly as when i heard it the first time.

it took me a while to get into drukqs, but now i have no doubts.

i love it, it's brilliant. the structure of piano tracks/neurotic electronics really works for me. i like how meltphace 6, cock/ver 10 or Mt Saint Michel + Saint Michaels Mount still sound new to me, as i will find something new everytime i am back to them.

i don't buy that

i still listen to ODB's Return to the 36 Chambers like it was released yesterday! there are many others i do this with as well. AE, Aphex, Public Enemy, Quasimoto, Anti Pop Consortium, the black dog... many many many!

Quite often. I regularly go back and listen to records by Coil, Massive Attack, Devin Townsend etc even though I've heard them hundreds of times... You know a record is quality when it transcends nostalgic value and still impresses you after getting such a thrashing over the years.

Drukqs is the only Aphex album I genuinely like

No set schedule, just whenever I feel like it.

Being active in many music-related forums, sometimes someone will post something I consider a classic that I haven't heard in a while and it'll prompt me to listen to it again. Sometimes it makes me revisit the artist's whole discog within that week.

But it's whatever. I do make it a point to mix in past favorites, but I don't force it either. Some weeks it's all new-to-me stuff, some weeks might be mostly old favorites.

But it's always :music:

wat???

For me, I started listening to Michael Jackson again... which I honestly haven't listened to since I was about 10 years old. Its been too long man... he was truly incredible. Thriller and Bad just blow my balls right off.

Also been listening to some Pixies and The Cure... giving the 80's some serious loving.

Its funny how its come full circle, with people like VHS Head and Com Truise giving those retro sounds a new meaning.

i have listened to thriller so many times now.

it's one of the few records where i surrender myself to the human voice. it's really good.
