Guest Jimbob
A Portsmouth landlady is contesting England's top-flight competition's TV copyright over Saturday afternoon games The Premier League today embarked on a long-awaited court action that could have profound implications for the future of the £3bn-plus its clubs earn from broadcast contracts and equally severe consequences for fans who like to watch 3pm kick-offs in the pub on a Saturday afternoon. The European court of justice in Luxembourg was the setting for what appears an uneven legal battle: in one corner, a doughty Portsmouth landlady who wants to continue showing foreign broadcasts of top-flight English football in her pub; in the other, lawyers for the Premier League who claim Karen Murphy, landlady of the Red, White and Blue in Southsea, is breaking copyright law, warning of the dire impact on its revenues and the knock-on effect for the film and television industries if they lose. link Be interesting to see how this one pans out, and how do the clubs themselves feel about it? Chris Moss Acid
Quote Portsmouth landlady who wants to continue showing foreign broadcasts of top-flight English football in her pub its its not on SKY or ESPN or ITV1-3-4 the how does she show foreign english football? if she streams it then that's illegal anyways, But why would she need to stream it when SKy and espn show most of the BIG games anyways. so i dont see where the argument is. im sleepy so maybe ive not gotten the point Edited October 7, 2010 by chris moss acid Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/60306-uk-premier-league-fans/#findComment-1431124

Guest Jimbob
Say you're talking Saturday kickoffs, Sky only normally show the early kick off @ 12:45, followed by the late one at 4:30 / 5:00. On an average weekend (e.g. two games on sunday), that could be up to six games playing @ 3:00pm on a Saturday, that aren't shown either by ESPN or Sky Alot of the pubs don't buy these foreign dishes because they're frightened by the legality side of things, but there are those that show games week in and week out with no hassle (if you know where to go obviously) Here's to hoping this case doesn't take forever to come through....and these pubs don't get fucked for what is effectively just an import from the EU. Why are there different rules for the UK? FIGHT THE POWER! Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/60306-uk-premier-league-fans/#findComment-1431427
