Underworld are offering you the chance to remix “Bird 1,” co-produced by Dubfire, from their new album, Barking. Contestants will have a shot at thousands of dollars worth of prizes provided by Beatport, KRK Systems, Native Instruments, SHURE, JanSport, and Underworldlive.com.

 

The stages

1. October 12th - October 18th: Download phase - Download the remix parts of “Bird 1” for $3.99 USD.

 

2. October 19th - November 1st: Upload/Submission phase - Upload your remix to Beatportal to www.beatportal.com/remix. During this phase the entries can be listened to, but not voted for.

 

3. November 2nd - November 16th: Voting phase - The public votes for their favorite remixes by “spinning” them.

 

After a period of deliberation, the winner will be announced by November 30th, 2010.

$4? For fuck sake.

I know.. wanted to give it a go, but paying for stems put me of. Not that it's expensive, but still..

i wonder why Underworld couldnt just post the parts for free on their own website?

I find it offensive that theyre charging for it. They want you to pay to remix their track?

Id understand if it was like $1 so as to stop just anyone downloading them and taking up bandwidth. But ffs.

and i'll parrot what i've said for any of these:

a remix competition based on "votes" is meaningless. bypass the remix part, guys. just give $1000 to the person that drives the most traffic to your site. save everyone the effort.

yeah. i might pay $4 for the pieces of rez or born slippy. but i think they should pay me to remix them.

It's a bit mwuh , I mean it's technically well made don't get me wrong - there's a lot going on and it's well produced. It's just that I found the thing a little too clinical and with not enough raw energy in it. Actually that's a similar issue I've had with all Underworld's output post Beaucoup Fish - I mean I like the albums sure, they're just not that 'epic' sounding any more. It's like they've run out of steam and can't face doing anything in your face sounding. Even their most 'intense' track on their latest album (Scribble) is a far cry from something like Kittens, Pearl's Girl or Cowgirl....

I honestly thought that remix was looping the same parts over and over. Too long and repetitive.

Anybody got the remix parts? Even though the contest is over, it would be fun to play with..
