Stereolab

I have been getting back into Stereolab after taking a break for awhile. I know/like their more obvious/highly regarded albums:emperor tomato ketchup, mars audiac quintet, dots and loops.

where should i go from there?

what are your favorite stereolab albums, eps, singles?

I really like Dots and Loops, Emperor Tomato Ketchup, Mars Audiac Quintet, Transient Random Noise Bursts With Announcements.. pretty much all I've heard of them is great.

sounds dust is my personal favorite and chemical chords is very good as well.

Check out Sound Dust and Margerine Eclipse for albums with a similar sound to the ones you mentioned. Chemical Chords has an updated, more pop-oriented sound, and is IMO their best since Dots and Loops.

I am finally getting into them, I don't hear the Esquivel! influence though. Love what I hear so far.

Well I think a lot of this has to do with the presence/absence of Mary Hansen (RIP). I like a lot of their newer stuff, but it's just not the same...

they are both good

I saw Stereolab in a club in 95 or 96 I don't remember...

But... They had their Moog's turned up really loud and did a few improve synth freakouts that were great... I was impressed by their volume in such a small club...

no love for Peng!? The first track off of that actually got me into them...really lush 60s hazy hippie club atmosphere with just a tinge of shoegazer vocal backdrops

"Mars Audiac Quintet" is legendary. I remember seeing them at Phoenix Festival in 1996 I think. I've been getting back into kinda sparce guitar motorik kraut type of shit so need to give em a listen when I get home tonight me thinks.

The album I keep going back to is Cobra and Phases, that's an amazing LP.

My old flatmate inherited a massive box of Mary Hansen's old records, some of the most bizarre exotica in there I've ever seen, massively obscure lounge records and other LPs like 'music to help you quit smoking'. Interesting insight into how they ended up with their particular sound.
