Pixies songs quoted/mentioned in SAW II White Blur

Recommended Posts

Just giving SAW II a spin this evening, heard whomever is speaking (possibley Rich and mates?) saying "... a song about a superhero named Tony..." which is a line from Tony's Theme and "you fuckin' die... which was a story about highschool" and "where is my mind". Probably been noticed before but haven't seen it mentioned by anyone here before.

To me the sped up part always sounded like he was saying "took the sounds of *something* & put them together", almost like he recorded himself explaining the track to someone & then put it in the track. That would be very meta indeed.

i noticed this a while back - dunno if i mentioned on here... i was just listening to it lying in bed and it suddenly seemed really obvious what they were saying

yeah, that part on one the pixies albums (cant remember which one - been about 8 years since i last listened to them) when frank black is jokingly saying "you fuckin die!" to kim deal. and "where is my mind" being said makes it obvious it's not just someone saying you fuckin die for another reason

Kinda demystifies the track a bit now I know what they are talking about, but at the same time the Surfer Rosa album by Pixies isn't something I thought Richard would even take the time to listen to. I suppose he would have a laugh some of their more short joke songs, he's produced his fair share of those.

Who are you to know what Richard D. James likes and/or listens to?

I mean come the fuck on now.

Did I say he likes or he has ever listened to it? If the Pixies are mentioned in the song by either him or someone else he must know what the subject is or what they are refering to, thats all I'm saying.

in a lot of interviews he makes a point of saying he doesn't like most rock and/or music with lyrics. i think a lot of this is bullshit and just the IDM bite to the champions of pop but nonetheless i wouldn't be surprised if he listened to the pixies but ya it does make white blur kind of lame...ps i heard she was into field hockey players

i find it natural that he'd find the pixies at least interesting, like himself they explored this contrast of noise and cutesy stuff mixed in their songs.

ZOMG! Lazerz pew pew pew!!!!11!!1!!!!1!oneone!shift+one!~!!!

Yes, I hear it too. I hear lines from the end of the track "Oh My Golly" and "Where is my Mind". If the info about Richard not being into the Pixies is true, (which is actually somewhat likely, given the interviews I've heard) he probably just set up a small sound recorder in some spot where people like to hang out and left it there for a day or two. Then when he came back, he heard the conversations of a group of people reminiscing over Pixies tracks and used it as a ambiance for his album. I think he does it with Aussois too, the ladies talking about ballet, or whatever it was.

So yeah, it probably wasn't him talking. Just my thoughts on the matter.
