After a decade of annoying ringtones, it seems everyone has settled on the same one: the 70s-era classic ringing bell sound. Anyone else seeing this trend?

+ no, i haven't noticed that trend. Then again i don't have what you would call an active social life, so my sample set is pretty small, maybe it's going on and i don't even realise.

Or perhaps it's your small sample set chaos, the otawan ironic hipster set. ;-p

i use the asian gong for incoming calls, a lazer sound for for incoming messages, text, and emails, and a nice soothing ringtone for the alarm.

i have noticed this from a lot of people at work. it seems like everyone who has this ring also has it at the highest possible volume and are never around when it rings.

id love to have me some ae or something like that for my ring. i have had r2-d2 for too long now. where does watmm get their rings from?

Well I haven't got a cellphone that would be able to play mp3's or the likes, let alone anything voice-like. But it came with this built-in tone editor and I made this

i tend to go for the most shrill horrible preset. The only way i'd get up, heh. But then again any noise that i've associated with an alarm gives me a slight inner shrug if i hear it out. I fucking hate waking up for the man/.

I just keep it on vibrate

a ringing phone is one of the most annoying sounds to me. it nearly makes my teeth grind. i ALWAYS go with vibrate. and i wouldn't be able to have it as a song i like. i'd never wanna hear it again

if i hear anything that sounds like an alarm clock, it gives me such a sour feeling for a quick second. i once heard an alarm sound effect in a game and it did that to me

unfortunately it seems that the majority of the prepaid mobile phones over in the US are forced into using the ringtone services supplied by the networks, which cost a fortune and obviously have limited range.

most mobile phones here have had the ability to use MP3s as a ringtone for, probably about 8 years now

theres websites you can make your own on.

i always try to find the most "normal" sounding ringtone. it has to be normal sounding while also evoking Patrick from American Psycho. corny ringtones are great.

I have Vatstep DSP as my standard ringtone, with BMSR - Sun Lips for my gf and The Books for my immediate family members. I just use an app called RingDroid to make my own.

I've settled on a snippet from some Ilkae song and my SMS tone is Sgt. Doakes from Dexter saying 'Surprise Motherfucker!', which is appropriate as it is truly a surprise if I get a SMS.

Yep, I've got the old-style phone as my ringtone. I use my phone as my alarm too and it's the iPhone's "Marimba", which I need to change - it sounds just enough like the intro to Siouxsie & The Banshees' "Hong Kong Garden" to lodge the song in my head every morning. it's been there for 2 months now.
