Midi Evil Raves

Recommended Posts

I don't know about #2 but is #1 literally a midi like RDJ just bashed random keys in Anvil Studio etc. and played it on his gear? I'm probably claiming supernatural hearing in saying this but I swear it has midi timing (I don't know that much about midi in general mostly referring to when you play back music in a midi editor)

hrmmm.... midi... would like to see his take on an album made out of pure general midi sounds and release it in pure midi form. I've probably missed the boat and someone's going to turn their nose up and tell me he's already feckin' done that.

There's a thing floating around that's basically a couple minutes worth of snippets from some of his unreleased computer track demos. Some of them sounded to me like they could have been midi sounds, but it's been a while since I've heard it.

^I forget the details, but they were posted here (as one mp3) a while back. It seemed reputable enough at the time.

afaik, MIDI has a timing issue when you try to send multiple message at the same time, messages get queued up and get sent one by one no matter what, some don't notice this lag but some do, on top of that some sequencers add extra delays because they are badly designed and MIDI over USB forget it, some people are even going back to old school Win98/serial port for MIDI...so the Atari STe is the tightest GUI MIDI sequencer, and AKAI ASQ-10 is probably the best hardware MIDI sequencer, also I hear the new AKAI MPC-1000 is as good as Atari STe for timing...

So I dunno if you mean that the track is showcasing this sloppiness of MIDI timing..

anyways check out this vid to see how good MIDI can be with hardware...

Squentix and Elektrons are the best hardware sequencers but the Akai's are also well up to scratch

the ST has a quartz crystal clock and the MIDI goes straight to the CPU which is why its the best but like you say hardware MIDI is generally shite at anything intensive although Elektrons turbo MIDI is a vast improvement with an increased bandwith sadly no one has really taken it on as it's all Fruity Loops/Live and USB these days

Midievil Rave 1 is just shite hardware noodlings imho
