i think i might want to delve into this band's catalogue, any fans here and if so could you describe their sound as precisely as possible?

yeah, they are pretty good - haven't given them a listen in a long time.

I saw them open for High on Fire a few years back. Good live band.

I remember them being similar to Mogwai. Instrumental, dynamic, ambient, cinematic, droney, melodic.

Quite good.

Their new stuff isn't great IMO, check out the first two albums. It's quite samey really, but live they're excellent.

i'm not trying to fuck up this thread, but i've generally found most all post rock very, very easy to forget about

there are definite exceptions but mono hasn't proven to be one of them.

The only Mono album I could sit through was You Are There but to echo the sentiment in this thread they are good live.

i don't care to investigate a lot of the newer stuff that's called post-rock, but i'll always love tortoise etc.

yeah i was gonna say, tortoise are one of the few that i really like.

i've always kind of disliked explosions in the sky / a silver mt. zion

i remember getting high and listening to do make say think a few times. they were good.

post-rock live:

- i just saw red sparowes live a few days ago. it was great.

- seeing caspian in a month. should be good.

- can't wait for GY!BE...

Pity the fool who thinks Mono are average

Their last album was mad as all fuck; epic tracks with a full orchestra and recorded by Steve Albini! Pure fucking win! But all of their records are great.

These guys lean a lot heavier towards classical music than any of their contemporaries (Explosions in the Sky, Pelican, Mogwai, etc) and they arrange their stuff beautifully.

I really dig some of their stuff, but Hymn to the Immortal Wind has some really cheesy moments.
