Guest Backson
I'm wondering if there is an effect (or possibly physical unit) that does realtime voice to MIDI conversion. I would be interested in using one to trigger a synth, and then have the original voice vocoded by the synth. this way the singer is still is able to have a vocoded sound but has complete control of the melody just from singing their part. i dunno, I reckon its a rad idea. also, this came up when I was making this topic. I think the answers is "definitely". Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/61110-voice-to-midi-converter/ Share on other sites
Silent Member
I'm sure there are a bunch of pitch tracking to midi vst's but I don't know about hardware if that's what you're after. Guest analogue wings
Just google "pitch to midi" - there's lots of free vsts etc Kraftwerk have patents on a whole lot of realtime voice processing stuff. I know they updated their custom vocoder in 1986 but i cant remember if they went midi Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/61110-voice-to-midi-converter/#findComment-1449357 Share on other sites
Silent Member
Heres's one from roland looks like you'll have a hard time finding one though. I have no idea how well these work. awepittance
i havent come across a great real-time program for doing this. max/msp has the object 'fiddle' which does a pretty good job. If you don't need real-time, Melodyne can output midi files and is extremely accurate. if somebody knows of a good realtime vst or other effect for pitch/voice tracking i'd like to check it out Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/61110-voice-to-midi-converter/#findComment-1449359 Share on other sites
Silent Member
This is supposed to work but it's mac only, so a no-go for me. Yeah i was wondering the same thing, if you can rip out it's guts and use the midi signal for something else it could be really nice. Tim Exile seemed very inspired by the Kantos plugin by Antares to make this, not quite a vocoder but an incoming pitch to synth converter Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide awepittance's signature Hide all signatures Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/61110-voice-to-midi-converter/#findComment-1449756 Share on other sites
Guest Promo
I've experimented with a few of these pitch to midi things over the years and most of them never seem to work to be honest. You need a supa clear totally on pitch signal to stand a chance of it converting it well. A good idea though might to record a vocal line and then apply auto tune to it and then run that sample through an audio to midi converter. If you simple try to tune your signal to a chromatic scale it works the best, but as soon as you start canceling out notes the chances of it fucking up by doing its typical glitch (random quick +1/-1 octave jumping) grow which will make it at this point just as good as using a pitch2midi tracker on its own.
