chassis
So at the moment I can afford to buy a full on laptop. Ive got a Netbook which I could use. If I got some midi decks + decent software Id be away in a hack. Spec are low to say the least. Its a Samsung N150 with the Atom processor and 1GB of ram but Id probably upgrade to 2GB's. What are the less intensive djing programmes. sneaksta303
ugh, lately when i've been playing out i'll use tracktor on those exact specs, and it fucking sucks. I hate it. every now and again, it'll glitch when tweaking the fx. I can't wait to get a proper laptop for playing out. chassis
Do you use midi decks with them? What ones and what other equipment do you need? sneaksta303
i used my keyrig for the knobs, but it's not made for use with tracktor, and is somewhat glitchy, so I just said fuck it and use a mouse. Guest ms-dos
i haven't heard of any netbooks that work with USB audio\midi interfaces. onboard sound is (always?) half-duplex so you won't even be able to cue. they're awful for any sort of audio, really, but that's not what they're designed for. they're fantastic for boarding on the toilet though. I was gonna see if I can sell my midi controller and buy a Numark Mixtrack. Aye, theyre great for posting while on the loo. But Im sure if you had an external soundcard that problem would be solved? Guest ms-dos
i guess if you're only using it to DJ (and not to produce, and using only very minimal effects), you might be happy with an external sound card. i haven't found a company that explicitly provides netbook support for their products, but that doesn't mean one3` won't work. just fyi regarding netbooks and beat making, this is the debate i keep seeing on message boards, and most of the evidence seems to show that dropouts don't get any better with an external card. let me know if you have any success!
