i like sliders. meatball sliders, pulled pork sliders, some sort of slow cooked lamb sliders. i like small things at a pub. something that isn't going to be too much of a hassle to eat. another thing i like is fries with an entire menu of sauces to dip them in. lots of salt everywhere too. is "gastropub" a widely used term in the UK? there's a somewhat shitty gastropub here in denver but it's nothing like what you can eat in new york. but still they have a good pork belly dish that i crave sometimes. mmm small plates.

yeah i think fred summed it up. small, convenient servings. meaty. but i could also go for a burger once and a while.

but fries with a different dip for each fry.... that shit is amazing.

if possible i will always order chowder or beef and guinness pie, depending on if the pub is near the sea or not.

and a pint of guinness.

a good rule of thumb in ireland is the further you get from a large urban conglomeration, the better the guinness will be.

i usually just get a burger or something. the pub at the end of my street does an amazing lamb burger, it comes with big wedges of deep fried eggplant. there's also a nice pub nearby that has a good selection of gourmet pizzas, nice for a hungover saturday/sunday afternoon.

the pub i work in does good lamb burgers, also steak and guiness pies. what are sliders?

sliders are teeny tiny 4:1 scale hamburgers and cheeseburgers.

i dearly wish we had them on this side of the pond.

^ saved me some typing. chowder or cullen skink! sometimes i'd get nachos or a good burger if it's freshly made.

cullen skink is staple pub grub here. smoked haddock, leaks, onions, potatoes & cream. slab of nice bread. so tasty

another favourite of mine is a steak sandwich with caramelised red onions and horseradish or mustard mayo

With a little research, sliders shouldn't be too tough to DIY - you might have to improvise a bit for the bun but other than that they're not a particularly difficult thing to cook.

and cullen skink sounds like the bassist from an irish punk band

edit: it also sounds delicious. i'm still trying to perfect my potato leek soup. i'm thinking of using a ham hock next time.

I don't eat many meals in a pub, but if I do it'll most likely be a burger of some sort. I've always liked burgers in country pubs, usually lamb burgers or something equally delicious.

I like cheesy chips.

Burgers are usually win, sliders, fries, onion rings. There's a nice British-style pub down the road from me a ways that was opened up by an older british couple that makes a mean fish n chips. I'll also have to look into the dip situation. Wash it down with a nice stout and I'm cool.
