Just finished this track, and this is my first topic on WATMM! Done entirely on the little MC-303 groovebox, so the production is rather bad, but if you guys could let me know what you think of the musical structure, I'd appreciate it.

Yeah not bad, pleasant enough wee tune. In terms of structure, it changes enough to not become immediately boring, you introduce new sections

as you go along. Your production isn't bad btw, it's very clean, I imagine because you've recorded right off 303.Actually, this is

what stops it jumping out at the listener I reckon. It's clinically clean, maybe needs a bit more grit and personality. Texture and FX

to make it sound more unique. It's rather flat, the beats could come to the front a bit more. I'm making assumptions

with the way your recorded it but why don't you take each track and record them separately which will give you the opportunity

to really work on making the sound your own. They sound a little pre-setty at the moment.

Taking the track outside the 303 will give much more freedom with chopping up the structure.

I like the melody though, potential is there.

i think i follow dissolvedpaul here. it's a very chillout track. very pleasant and a good melody. maybe it's just too dull/chill - it could take a turn or something maybe. go in another direction, and come back to the original track. like, going out somewhere and coming back..

Playful and happy tracks are my favourite kind. At first I didn't know what to make of it, but it quickly grew on me. It sounds like it wants to go somewhere though, the ending was really abrupt and definitely caught me off guard-- maybe going back into a section similar to the middle of the track, with something else underneath it, to a climax?

Yeah, I totally agree. I actually spent almost no time on the second section of this track, comparatively. Like everything after the drums drop out about halfway through was just done in one session, whereas for the rest of it I spent a good bit of time getting the drum programming and melodic progression just right. This song only seems like 70% done to me, and I'm glad you feel the same way. I'll probably get back into it eventually and get everything just right, structurally. Not going to bother with sprucing up the production on my tunes until I get an MC-909.

Thanks a lot for all the input guys, and for listening.
