Quantities measured in grams would be required to achieve destructive effect comparable with conventional nuclear weapons; one gram of antimatter annihilating with one gram of matter produces 180 terajoules, the equivalent of 42.96 kilotons of TNT (approximately 3 times the bomb dropped on Hiroshima - and as such enough to power an average city for an extensive amount of time).

Who ever develops this will definitely be the next world power.

It's bad enough that there are still nuclear weapons in countries' arsenals, but nooo, we also need to worry about anti-matter weapons.

Making anti-matter weapons would be such a delicate, expensive, arduous and for now undo-able process I'm not too certain it will ever happen let alone in the near future. Basically what I'm saying is don't worry about it for now.

Read the BBC article with "calabi yau space" playing. It makes more sense.

when i first heard about the LHC i felt a bit paranoid. i'd read there would be black hole and all that. of course that was ridiculous.

i can't say that the fear of "mad" scientists in high places without proper regard for the consequences of their findings was completely irrational.

So obviously aliens are just anti-matter beings and thats why we havn't run into them yet cuz if we tried to shake hands they would blow up the universe?
