Guest Sprigg
So my mum knows i've been interested in a turntable for some time now, and she saw this one in a Target ad for $90. Neither she nor I know nothing of them, as far as brand/specs to go for. Yay? Nay? What kind do you guys have? Guest disparaissant
go used, go vintage. you can do a lot better for 200 bones. in fact you could probably get a tec 12 for 200 bucks if you really tried. maybe even a rega. Guest Coalbucket PI
I just have some Gemini decks but I guess you want a USB ready one? If it is $90 then that is very cheap, might be worth a punt. If its $200 like in your link then you can probably get a good brand one for that price. chassis
Dont bother getting a USB one. Ive got one, the sound is shite. They usually have analogue outputs, which might be ok. But dont play through USB, the compression is awful(and not in a Clark sort of way). pcock
yeah just get a 1210. you can get em for like 150-200 second hand. pounds that is. theyre indestructible and feel as powerful as god. YEK
you also want one with interchangeable styluses/needles. using dj needles help from not sctraching/damaging your records.. it doesn't matter if you get belt drive really, if you're just listening. go for brands from music shops: technics, gemini, stanton and the like. oscillik
Technics 1200 or 1210 (exactly the same, only difference being the colour). be prepared though - you will need a decent cart and stylus, which don't come cheap. and you'll need a stereo amp that has a dedicated phono input. also of course, you'll need records. and them shits be like crack, yo. Siegecow
Theres almost no need for technics 1200s unless youre planning to do spinning or scratching. If you just want a nice used turntable to listen to records at home get a Dual of some sort. I sold my 1200s and bought this and upgraded the needle with $100 to spare. Havent missed the Technics at all. http://www.amazon.com/Technica-AT-LP60-Automatic-Driven-Turntable/dp/B002GYTPAE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290188639&sr=8-1 Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide Siegecow's signature Hide all signatures On 3/16/2011 at 8:14 PM, troon said: fuck off! Guest Sprigg
Probably shoulda been a bit more specific-- I'm not looking to scratch or anything, just listen, so USB was really not even in what I was looking for. As I said,my mum saw it in the target ad she got in the mail for like $90 bucks. I'm liking 24Ourange's suggestion a lot as well, due to the price... and it looks sexy. Now as far as speakers go, will this need some kind of adapter/ weird cable I'm unaware of to plug into a typical set of stereo speakers? Or will I need to buy some new speakers as well? I'm not looking or awesome audiophile FLAC uber-sound reproduction here, just casual listening.
