Grizzly Bear

Yellow House might easily turn into one of my favorite albums of all time. Shit's unreal. Veckatimest is also quite good. I haven't heard anything else by the band.They occasionally give off a very slight hipster vibe but that's OK.

What's your opinion on these dudes, watmm?

I mean, Veckatimest is a pretty good album, but I'm really really really enjoying Yellow House right now.

I really like them.

I like Veckatimest a lot. Haven't delved into Yellow House yet. May have to get hold of it though. I'm not keen on too many bands about right now, but Grizzly Bear are one that stand out for me too.

Veckatimest is amazing, haven't really heard much else but I definitely dig that album a lot

They know how to write good music. One of the dudes who sings is really obnoxious. The better singer has a side project called Department of Eagles, which is really good. But, their lyrics suck... in both bands.

I really like Vekatimest, it was my album of last summer - kept me alive. However, there are a few songs I just don't like. But most of it is 5-star material to me. It did take about 3 spins of the album for even the first wonderful song to emerge. Actually I take that back, I liked Two Weeks right away which is what made me check out the album. So anyway I can see why people might just say "what's the big deal...boring" because that's exactly what I thought at first (except for Two Weeks).

I've played Yellow House a few times but it hasn't grabbed me yet. Perhaps time for another listen soon. I'm playing the first vid and yeah it's not bad but still nothing on the top songs from Vekatimest IMO.

Funny, I'm listening to the samples of the latest Department of Eagles right now and it sounds to me like the guy that I find obnoxious in Grizzly Bear, lol. Those are the songs I can't really get into on Veckatimest - the ones he sings. He's got that shaky voice that makes me feel edgy.

My favourite is Veckatimest, by far. I find it much more interesting than Horn of plenty or Yellow House, I mean there are some nice songs on those albums as well, but the arrangemts are very bare compared to Veckatimest, which is oh so lush.

i like both of their voices. i honestly thought yellow hpuse was a flash in the pan. i got that right when it came out and was immediately intrigued because it was like nothing i was listening to at the moment. it was so delicate and the song structures seemed like they could collapse at any moment.

when veckatimest came out i was a bit hesitant because two weeks, while amazing, was very catchy. but as it were it surpassed yellow house in every conceivable way for me. its one of my favorite records in a long long time and something i go back to very frequently.

definitely prefer Veckatimest over Yellow House.

maybe i'm just a mainstreamer...

On A Neck, On A Spit is the only Grizzly Bear song I still listen to.

Not heard much of the new album, I just can't be bothered with it.

i hear a ton of people shit talk "Two Weeks", but it really is a fantastic pop song.

Just to make sure we're on the same page (or not, rather), the songs I don't like on Veckatimest are: Southern Point, Fine for Now, Dory, Hold Still, and I Live With You. I rate all of those as 3 stars, whereas Two Weeks, Cheerleader, Ready Able, About Face, and Foreground are 5-star songs.

before you write off southern point listen to the live version on the bonus tracks they released. it's killer.

Ya, that video is fucking amazing!

I really like GB. Yellow House is a lot better than Veckatimest though. I found the latter to be really boring (other than 2 weeks and a couple others)

Also, if you like their old stuff, they re-did a few of the tracks for the Friend EP, which is amazing too!
