I really like the interpretation the Japanese have of IDM.

Himuro is really awesome, there are two Himuro

This song Himuro - Die Faultiere is good http://songfountain.com/discussion/92

The other HImuro isHimuro Yoshiteru, hopefully I am not confusing the same person lol.

There is another Japanese producer I found on the same site called aus, which is great too.

Does anybody know any other artists?

Nice! I'll check it out now. There is another good one Jemapur - Maledict Car ->

I remember he did some remixes for Merck on the Machine Drum remix album.

sorry i got the album name wrong, the one i would actually recommend is Hyu's Random Walkers Delight, it's some of the catchiest 'pop' music i've heard that actually have no vocals

and i always use this discogs review of the LP to convince people how awesome it is

This release is a perfect example of an album that will never in a million years get the attention it deserves. An unfortunate circumstance for a talented artist like Hyu, and certainly unfortunate for anyone else who falls into the same boat. Random Walker's Delight is a ridiculous blast from start to finish, where technical sound expertise meets a dizzying array of pop-electronica, experimental ambience and glitchy IDM, just to name a few. And yet, it manages to sound nothing like these things. It understands it's reference points and completely disregards them and their standard conventions, something that is admirable in many Japanese musicians. Hyu's previous album hinted at these qualities, but it wasnt until this album that they were executed perfectly, with unbelievable results. So while the rest of the electronic world is hung up on ridiculous trends, self actualized irony, and a false understanding of what they think is innovative, truly great and unique artists like Hyu will get routinely ignored.

if you want to find out about a lot of other Japanese idm artists look no further than one of the most comprehensive resources, Child Disc records - http://www.discogs.com/label/Childisc

off the top of my head another cool release on here - Asao Kikuchi - What Must They Be Saying?

none of these producers with the exception of himuro (who is quite good if i may say so) are japanese, although

they do of course have various japanese themes flowing through their music's

Several japanese electronic producers that I have listened to have a special aesthetic, even though I wouldn't label many of them as IDM. I suggest:

Arc Of Doves

World's End Girlfriend

Tomoyoshi Date

Kaito

Katzo

Masayoshi Fujita

Ametsub

Computer Soup

Minamo

Ryuichi Sakamoto's collabs

Daisuke Miyatani

Matrix

There are countless independent labels in Japan that release very interesting music that doesn't get much attention.

Edit: What made you think Arovane, Xela and Yatsume were japanese?

Awesome list, will check out all of those guys. I only know World's End Girlfriend, there are really good. I though they were Japanese because of their names even though that sounds like ridiculous logic lol. Also there style is kind of minimal and one of Arovane's songs is Cry Osaka Cry lol.

I really like the Japanese Poppy Dancey type stuff like:

Capsule (Capsule - Hello: http://songfountain.com/discussion/26)

Perfume

Meg (Meg - Telephone: http://songfountain.com/discussion/250)

Aira Mitsuki

Anybody a fan of bossa nova? Any bossa nova electronic fusion type artists?

I love this kinda stuff, Capsule are awesome! I also really like some Shibuya Kei stuff like Cornelius, and the occasional Pizzacato Five song. And of course the first two Katamari Damacy soundtracks.

Never heard of Perfume or Aira Mitsuki... only have a coupla Meg songs.

I really like this, although it might be a little too poppy for your liking... the melody at the end never fails to make me melt (excuse the lame AMV):

And of course there's Susumu Hirasawa:

Also, this isn't japanese, but I just bought an album by an australian dance group called Bag Raiders and it reminds me of stuff like Capsule:
