Sennheiser HD555 headphones black friday deal, are they any good?

Recommended Posts

I have been waiting for a good deal to buy a decent pair of headphones. Amazon has a black Friday deal for Sennheiser HD555 ($90 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001FTVDQ). I was wondering if anyone has a pair and could say whether that price is worth it or not.

Thanks!

haha, I saw this today and laughed at my misery. I paid $130 for those back in the day, but I think they're incredible.

Keep in mind, they're open cans, so people around you will hear your music. Of course, they sound amazing as a result.

You can hardly go wrong with an open headset Sennheiser

I had a HD555 for years, until dropping it from time to time eventually broke off one ear.

now i have a HD595, wich is only slightly better

all i'm saying is, go for it

Thanks, I think I might do it, though after taking a closer look, the $90 seems to be the "normal" price, the black Friday price is actually $80 (You have to add it to your cart from the black Friday homepage to get this). Sweeter deal, but does not feel as special upon first glance.

Why would you buy those headphones when Grado SR-80i are better for the same price ?

Just because it's a "deal" ??

I'm listening to 747 on my HD 555's right now.

I also bought them on a Black Friday deal two years ago, and I am currently patting myself on the back while the lush sounds of BoC massage my earholes.

You should do the same. :emotawesomepm9:

do these have a coiled cord or a 10 footer that you have to wrap up and twist tie yourself?

A long ass cord that you could hang yourself with.

they also have the HD 595 for $150 usd, which is a pretty good deal i think?

Been using mine for a year and a half. They still sounds great! My only complaint is that the length of the wire makes it a little hard to manage. And as someone already mentioned they are open cans so they will disturb the people around you.

Is there a huge difference between the HD555 and HD595?

Wow..have you actually tried the 555/595 mod? I am not entirely happy with the low end response on these headphones, but I'm not convinced about the mod either.

i did the mod, the bass is definitely more pronounced that way. the purpose of those pads is to dampen the low frequency resonance inside the cans if i understand correctly. you can undo the mod if the result is not satisfactory to your ears, so if your warranty has expired go ahead and try it.

does the mod lead to a flatter response or does it just increase LF response and more bass makes people happy, even if it's not accurate

yeah, the mod helps bass but also really opens up the soundstage. kind of like if you covered half the grill with your hand, then pulled it away. the little piece of foam was obviously put in there to make the 595s sound like an upgrade.
